Happy Hanukkah and an early Merry Christmas to our FLASHERS! We will not be publishing next week since Christmas day falls on Thursday. I will be enjoying my family and I hope you will be too busy celebrating with family and friends to think about reading Flash! The following Thursday will be the first day of 2015. That being the case there is a very good chance that our issue the following week will come out early so that we can share some fun New Year's Eve ideas with you.
I can't believe that we are about to say farewell to 2014! It's funny how age transforms our outlook and little phrases like 'time flies' ... well they certainly take on a more profound meaning! The fact that 2015 will launch us into our 5th year of publishing FLASH seems surreal! I must admit that FLASH has not evolved into what I initially intended. I started FLASH as a 'Community Bulletin Board' where anyone could tap into the expertise and knowledge of other FLASHERS. While I was busy promoting the always useful bulletin board, I personally came up with 'fillers'. Well, you know the outcome. It's the 'fillers' that everyone hungered for and FLASH, as you know it today, was born!
Last weekend I had a table at the art show in Riverside Park to pass out our December Calendar and to sign up new subscribers. I got to meet so many of you personally and was overwhelmed with your compliments! It still catches me off guard when I hear people ask, "Are you Valerie?" "Wow! I LOVE FLASH!" With the signups last weekend we are closing in on 6,500 subscribers and we continue to distribute 10,000 calendars each month. Thank you so much for your support, Flashers! I'm glad that you like us and find FLASH helpful and entertaining. Can I be a bit bold and tell you what I want for Christmas? I would be MOST APPRECIATIVE if you would share FLASH with your friends, colleagues at work, the check out gal at Publix, your neighbors on both sides, your mail carrier...Yep! You got it...Every person that you have contact with. Hope that's not too much to ask! :) Just think, if every FLASHER would share FLASH with just one other person we would double in size and I would be the happiest Christmas elf alive! Your friends will be most appreciative too! It's one gift you can give during this season of giving that won't cost you a penny! So click the link and share the FLASH!
I want to also thank you for sending us information on church services and for passing along your light display finds to share in today's issue. FLASH only gets better with your input! I wish all FLASHERS a peaceful close-out to 2014. I hope you will be surrounded by family and friends and that there will be much laughter in the air! Have fun FLASHERS because FUN is the BEST thing to have and during this season of giving...remember to give some love and laughter to others!
Merry Christmas!

Above are pictures of two homes Team FLASH suggested last week. You can still send us information on your light display finds!

No, we aren't talking about the sunken Spanish ships that rest on the ocean floor just off our beach. This one is a lot easier to search for and might come your way during the season of 'giving'. This feature is one that we post from our archives because Team FLASH finds real joy in helping you find money you didn't even know you were missing. The State of Florida maintains a website that allows you to see if the state is holding money for you that you didn't even know you were missing any money, but the state currently holds over $1 billion dollars in unclaimed property from dormant accounts of banks, insurance and utility companies, as well as stock dividends and other checks never cashed. The Post Office no longer forwards mail a year after a move. If it is undeliverable or is returned to the sender, it will eventually wind up in this account. It is deposited in the state school fund and used for public education, but there is no statute of limitations and a person may claim it at anytime. One of our FLASH subscribers found over $800.00. Another found cash owed to a deceased parent from over forty years ago! If you have moved, you may not have received refunds from your utility deposits. If you have married, the money may be in your previous name. The state also holds tangible property such as jewelry and coins from abandoned safety deposit boxes. All states have an unclaimed property division, so if you're new to Florida, you may want to check your previous state's records. Click on Florida's website www.fltreasurehunt.org and follow the simple directions to 'stake your claim'. Happy hunting! FLASH us a post if you find anything!

TOW TO GO
We'll begin by saying, please drink responsibly during the holiday. If you find that you have had a bit too much to drink please act responsibly and do not get behind the wheel. You put yourself and others at risk and it is just plain and simply ... not worth it. The holiday season is known to be one of the biggest times of the year for recreational drinking. AAA and Budweiser have paired up and offer a Tow to Go service. This service is confidential and offers a ride within a 10 mile radius to a safe location. It is free and available to both AAA members and non members. The AAA tow truck takes the vehicle and the driver home. Please share this site with anyone that you think might be in need of this service. Click Here to see the hours the service is available. The number to call for service is (855) 286-9246. THE BOWL GAME SCHEDULE
If you thought college football was almost over, think again! This Saturday, the Bowl games begin and continue until the college championship game on January 12th. Remember when there were just a few Bowl games and those had simple names like Orange Bowl and Rose Bowl? Not so anymore. Now many of the games have commercial sponsors and strange names. This year's schedule has a total of 38 Bowl games and includes the Quick Lane Bowl, the New Era Pinstripe Bowl and the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. (You can't make these things up!) Most of the games will be broadcast on ESPN, but for the complete schedule, Click Here.

How do we really know that Santa is a man? Because no woman would ever wear that same outfit year after year!
...and speaking of the difference between men and women
What a difference it would make if there were Three Wise Women instead of Three Wise Men? They would have:
Gotten there quicker because they asked directions.
Helped deliver the baby.
Cleaned the stable.
Made a casserole.
And brought more practical gifts!
CURIOUS CHRISTMAS TIPS!
GO CAROLING!
British researchers recently did a 'singing' survey of 375 people. They learned that any singing contributed to a sense of emotional well-being, but people in choirs reported feeling happier than those who sung solo.
SERVE ON RED PLATES!
Just as red lights mean 'stop', red dishes may cause us to eat less according to the journal APPETITE. People who were offered dark chocolate and popcorn on red plates ate less than when they were served on blue or white plates. Apparently red is an unconscious signal to 'stop' that may slow snacking down.
Sometimes we're lucky enough to cross paths with someone who exemplifies the sentiment of inspiration. During this season of miracles, inspiration, and giving, I dare say that Diane serves as an 'encourager' to turn life's lemons into a most wonderful lemonade. Thank you to Toni, a fellow FLASHER, for sharing this.
FISH CALENDAR The darker the fish...The better the fishing!
DO YOU KNOW?
How "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer"
Got Started
The Montgomery Ward Department Store in Chicago used to give away books to children at Christmas. In 1939, a young copywriter named Robert May was asked by his boss to write a Christmas story about an animal. Robert was tall and skinny as a child and had been teased by his classmates, so he came up with the concept of a reindeer who was laughed at and called names at by the other reindeer because of his red nose. Of course, we all know that Rudolph became Santa's hero! Millions of the books were given away and ten years later, Robert's brother in-law Johnny Marks wrote the song Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer.

RECIPE OF THE WEEK
Bacon Wrapped Smokies
This was sent by one of our Flashers who prefers to remain anonymous. She says, "These little bites take time to prepare but are perfect for a holiday party. The taste of bacon and brown sugar together is a yummy combination."
INGREDIENTS
DIRECTIONS (Serves about 16)
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees.
Refrigerate 2/3 of the bacon until needed. It is easier to wrap the wieners with cold bacon. Wrap each cocktail dog with a piece of bacon and secure with a toothpick. Place on a large baking sheet. Sprinkle brown sugar generously over all.
Bake for 40 minutes in the preheated oven, until the sugar is bubbly. To serve, place the wieners in a slow cooker and keep on the low setting.
SCENE AROUND TOWN
Welcome Wagon Club Raises Funds With Basket Auction
The Original Welcome Wagon Club of Sebastian held their annual Christmas Basket Auction at their December meeting/luncheon. A week before the luncheon, the club's Board gathers and assembles the baskets using edible and non-edible items the club members have donated. After a scrumptious lunch was served by Culinary Capers, the lively bidding began. Over 40 baskets were auctioned raising just shy of $700.00. Proceeds from the club's fundraisers are given to local charities and organizations within the community and scholarships to qualifying seniors from Sebastian River High School.

VNA HOSPICE CEREMONY
There might have been a slight chill in the air outside but the feeling inside Christ Church was nothing but warm. VNA Hospice held its first Holiday Luminary Remembrance event on the evening of Monday, December 15. Pastor John E. Miller, III welcomed the attendees to the church along with VNA Social Services Manager, Dory Webber. VNA Bereavement Counselors Becky Jacobson and Christy Hall addressed the crowd speaking on grief during the holidays and a responsive reading. Saxophonist, James Alexander, and pianist, Jacob Craig, played a moving rendition of "Amazing Grace." The ceremony closed with a candle lighting ceremony and opportunity for attendees to share stories or poems about their loved ones. A small reception was held after the ceremony in the parish hall.
