editor's note poka-dot

November is here and there are many things to remember and to celebrate! Veterans' Day is next Monday, November 11th. Did you know that Veteran's Day marks the end of WWI which formerly ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918. Veteran's Day honors ALL U.S. service men and women. It is not to be confused with Memorial Day that is a day of remembrance in May that honors all who have died serving our country.

As we honor our veterans I ask that you please take notice of two posts in this week's issue. One is requesting cookies for the November 'Cookies for Soldiers' packages that will be shipped in time to bring Thanksgiving sentiments to our service men and women. The other is the Military Mom's Prayer Group. They have the holiday boxes ready to be picked up and shipped in time for the holidays to our military who are currently serving our country. Click Here for more information and a list of locations where you can pick up the mailing kit.

Other things to highlight that are going on this weekend include: Oceanside Farmers Market (The morning weather is great for this!), The Chien Jazzy sponsored by Blue Ribbon Charities brings a New Orleans night of Jazz, good food and wine for a great cause.  It's not too late to join the fun this Saturday night. Another fun event not to miss is the famous 'Sebastian Clambake Festival' that runs Friday - Sunday. For a little bit of culture, head to Riverside Theatre for a great performance of I Love A Piano and some fantastic Broadway music.  If you prefer a little bit of old rock head to Sunrise to catch the one night performance of Kansas 40 years. On Sunday there are two opportunities to get a jump start on your holiday shopping. Head over to Dragonfly Quilt Shop for 'Art in the Shade' and then stop in at 'All Thru the House' for their holiday open house. FLASHERS...There is always something going on.  Make sure to get out and enjoy some of the wonderful things our community has to offer and remember to mention that you saw if on FLASH! :)

  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp. allspice
  • 1/8 tsp. ground cloves
