HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Thanksgiving is next Thursday. Team FLASH will be taking off to celebrate the holiday with our families. So, there will be no issue next week. Our own group will be going to our farm in Boston, Georgia where we will truly share in what is about as close as you can get to an old-fashioned Thanksgiving. Our farm is rather remote, so there's no internet and cell phone reception is rather 'patchy'. It is truly 'family time'! Each family member is known for a different 'special dish' which they will prepare for the meal. There is always an abundance of food. New this year (- and an authentic blast from the past) is our surrey! Yes, my husband bought a surrey which will be pulled by one of our mules in the Annual Surrey Parade. Only in Boston, Georgia! (Watch for pictures in a future issue!) My grown children still love climbing on the bales of hay that stack to nearly 20 feet. Wherever you will be spending the holiday, we hope you will also be with family and friends. If you have an extra seat at the table, you might want to include someone who is less fortunate. Have a wonderful holiday and don't forget to count your many blessings and give thanks for each and every one!

This weekend there are several fun events you might want to explore.  The Festival of Trees at the Children's Theatre is taking place.  Stop on by for a full dose of holiday merriment!  I decorated a FLASH tree this year with a MacKenzie-Childs motif to achieve our 'FLASH the Joy' theme. There are so many wonderful trees, gingerbread houses and wreaths that will be auctioned off. It is a true feast for your eyes...And this feast has no calories! Saturday evening you can head to Ocean Drive for the free concert. Take your beach chair and just sit back and relax and let the craziness of the past week melt away. Enjoy yourselves FLASHERS! We'll be back in December (I can't believe it) when we start the countdown to Christmas!

THANKSGIVING CALORIE COUNTDOWN!

Did you know that according to the Calorie Control Council, you can stuff down as many as 4,500 calories on Thanksgiving? That includes drinks and snacks while you're watching the football games. That's almost twice the maximum suggested for a day! If you want to cut back, you can add up your choices on this list.  Click Here

(NOTE: We think that's an error on the pumpkin pie at 180 calories, or it's a very small piece! It's actually more like 320!)

FLASH TIP OF THE WEEK

  FLASH VIDEO OF THE WEEK

This is a great video... Apparently to promote

exercise and the 2014 Olympics, Olympic Changes installed a very special ticket machine at the Moscow subway station.

Instead of accepting money as payment, the high-tech ticket machine only accepted exercise

Riders could receive a free ticket by standing in front of the machine's camera, and performing 30 squats or lunges.

A good little message as we prepare for our Thanksgiving Feast.  Perhaps we should all require 30 squats in exchange for a dinner plate next Thursday! :)

  RECIPE OF THE WEEK

"This sweet and sassy pie is just the right balance of sugar and tart, with the creamy pears mellowing out the lip-smacking cranberries. It's the perfect treat for the holidays with its festive colors and flavors and it is quick and easy!" --stylemepretty.com

Ingredients

1 recipe Single-Crust Pie
8 cups sliced red and/or green ripe pears (7 to 8 pears; 3 to 3-1/2 lb. total)
1 cup fresh cranberries
1/4 cup sugar
3 tablespoons cornstarch
2 tablespoons apple cider or water
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 tablespoon sugar
2 tablespoons caramel-flavored ice cream topping, plus additional for drizzling

Directions

1. Prepare and roll out Pastry for Single-Crust Pie (below). Preheat oven to 375 F.

2. Arrange half of pears in prepared pastry; sprinkle with 1/2 cup of cranberries. Arrange remaining pears atop cranberries. In bowl stir together 1/4 cup sugar, cornstarch, cider, and nutmeg; drizzle evenly over pears. Cover pie with foil.

3. Bake 40 minutes. Remove foil; sprinkle with 1 tablespoon sugar. Bake, uncovered, 30 to 35 minutes more or until pears are tender and juices are bubbly. Remove from oven and place on wire rack.

4. Meanwhile, in small saucepan combine remaining cranberries and 2 tablespoons caramel topping. Bring to boiling. Cook 1 minute. Remove from heat. Spoon over hot pie.

5. Serve warm. Drizzle with additional caramel topping. Make 8 servings.

WANT TO GET COOKIN'?
FROM EMILY NETO: Reply
This vintage electric stove works great.  Needs the oven door either fixed or replaced. Also needs a good cleaning & new drip pans on top. It was built for Sears & Roebuck  Co.  I am thinking it was built in the late 60\' s to early 70\'s.  It measures 40 inches across versus the standard size of 30 inches.

I am asking $225.00 OBO.  It is located in Vero. Please reply above if interested.

Featuring the work of some of the most famous National Geographic photographers, the exhibition includes remarkable images from the Society's core mission areas: exploration, wildlife, cultures, science, and nature. The more than 50 images in the exhibition plumb the depth of National Geographic's image collection to highlight the loveliest and most appealing photographs from this impressive archive. The result is an experience of visual delight, centering on stunning landscapes and quaint locales. The exhibition makes one ponder what creates beauty in a photograph, and illustrates the power of these images to "lift us out of a jaded world and make us gasp." Simply Beautiful was assembled by award-winning National Geographic photographer Annie Griffiths, who wrote in the book that accompanies the show: "Photographs have given us visual proof that the world is grander than we imagined, that there is beauty, often overlooked, in nearly everything."
