Happy October FLASHERS!
I love October! Just think about all of the wonderful it brings to our lives...
* Cooler days and even cooler nights. (We might be able to open our windows soon) * Natures show of color. (Tell your friends up north to send you some leaves and let your children ... or heck go for it yourself...iron them between wax paper and tape it to your widow for a touch of Florida Fall!
* FOOTBALL! Go Dolphins, War Eagle, and Go Bears! My three personal favorite teams. Go Bears...No... Not Chicago...Mercer University that brought back football this year after 72 years. We are 4-0 and even made it onto the top 10 ESPN plays with this interception, touchdown runback last week. * Taste of pumpkin...everywhere...our coffee, breads, pasta...I even hear they have pumpkin beer. * Halloween! ... A time when we can choose to be anything we want! If you don't dress up, I hope you enjoy the little goblins and princesses that show up at your door. Ya gotta love the kids! :) * We usually gain an hour when we set our clocks back...Sorry FLASHERS! You don't get that extra hour until November 3rd this year! (I need my hour...NOW!). * The buzz is BACK. Our calendars are filling up and there are so many exciting things to select from to entertain ourselves. Make sure to check out the calendar at the bottom. We have some exciting things going on this weekend including the Air Show, Oktoberfest, Craft Festival, auditions at the Children's Museum for Spooktacular haunted house, and so much more! ENJOY OCTOBER! Valerie Watkins Publisher |

FLASH BEAUTY TIP OF THE WEEK Sponsored by: Center for Facial Aesthetics
Beauty Tips for Travel ~ Heading north to see the fall Foliage?
1. Moisturize - Apply moisturizer the night before you are going to fly. This will help increase hydration in your skin before you're exposed to the dehydrating effects of cabin pressure,
2. Forgo the Foundation - Skip foundation on the day of your trip, and instead wear tinted moisturizer. If you must wear a foundation put on a primer first -- that puts a layer of protection between skin and makeup. It will help foundation and blush last longer and help keep your skin from becoming dehydrated. Try Jane Iredale Smooth Affair $48.
3. Mist with Mineral Water - To refresh makeup while traveling, never glob on more foundation or blush. Instead, use a mister of mineral water and add a dab of moisturizer.
4. Blot Out Oily Skin - To keep oily skin from getting out of control while traveling, bring blotting papers or rice papers and dab the "T" zone as often as necessary.
5. Skip Long-Lasting Lipsticks - To give lips color that will last through your trip, skip the long- lasting lipsticks -- they'll only dehydrate and parch your mouth. Instead color your lips with several coats of a lip stain, let dry, then top with a clear gloss. Reapply the gloss throughout the trip and your lips will look "just-made-up" fresh. Lipsense Lip Color lasts 4-18 hours and the shea butter gloss with keep lips hydrated.
6. Chill Out Puffy Eyes - To reduce under-eye puffiness after a long trip, put crushed ice in a washcloth and apply it under the eyes. Try an under eye serum with caffeine for a quick lift to the eye area. It's an automatic wake-up call that makes you look and feel immediately fresher.
7. Perk Up Your Peepers - Watching back-to-back in-flight movies, or reading that paperback novel cover to cover, can also cause you to arrive at your destination with red, watery, not-so-attractive eyes. To avoid it don't forget to bring eye drops. Dr, Ralph Monnett recommends hydrating the eyes with preservative free artificial tears. Avoid Visine or Clear Eyes, they are too drying.
8. Take Your Cleanser With You If you can only take one skin care item from home, let it be your cleanser. An abrupt change in cleansers can disrupt skin's acid balance and cause a vacation breakout,
9. Hydrate Drink plenty of non-carbonated, non-caffeinated drinks with no added sugar. It's good for your skin, keeps your extremities from swelling. An added benefit...the extra trips to the bathroom will prevent dangerous clots from forming in the legs due to sitting still for hours at a time while flying.

Featuring the work of some of the most famous National Geographic photographers, the exhibition includes remarkable images from the Society's core mission areas: exploration, wildlife, cultures, science, and nature. The more than 50 images in the exhibition plumb the depth of National Geographic's image collection to highlight the loveliest and most appealing photographs from this impressive archive. The result is an experience of visual delight, centering on stunning landscapes and quaint locales. The exhibition makes one ponder what creates beauty in a photograph, and illustrates the power of these images to "lift us out of a jaded world and make us gasp." Simply Beautiful was assembled by award-winning National Geographic photographer Annie Griffiths, who wrote in the book that accompanies the show: "Photographs have given us visual proof that the world is grander than we imagined, that there is beauty, often overlooked, in nearly everything."
