Hello FLASHERS!

Are you all feeling the Lazy - Hazy - Crazy Days Of Summer yet? Don't get too lazy. Take advantage of some extra free time and longer daylight hours to enjoy and explore! Add that exclamation point to life! In other words .... Live life ... Do Not allow it to just happen to you. This past week I happened upon a show on TV where two girlfriends made a pact with each other. Every week they were going to try something they had never done. Take a class, go sky-diving (personally...I don't think so), travel to a new spot, take a cooking class...anything to truly get as much out of this thing called life as they possibly could. Doesn't that sound great? I challenge all of you to do the same.  Make your weekly 'bucket list.' Find a friend, spouse, child, parent; someone you can enjoy life with and then JUST DO IT! Maybe you can incorporate all of those different people by assigning a week to each one. The first week of the month you will 'push the envelope' with your friend, the second week with a parent, and so on.  I do love quotes and here are a couple of quotes for the week that 'ditto' this sentiment.

"To have lived long does not necessarily imply the gathering of much wisdom and experience. A man who has pedaled 25,000 miles on a stationary bicycle has not circled the globe. He has only garnered weariness."

Paul Eldridge

And the one we have more than likely heard before...but should never weary of.

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did. So, sail away from the safe harbor! Catch the trade winds in your sails! Explore! Dream! Discover!"

Mark Twain

ENJOY LIFE FLASHERS! If you feel like it send me an email with your new experience! .... And a picture! :)

This is a fun 4th of July quick project that will certainly send the patriotic vibes out to everyone!  There are no detailed directions for this one.  Just paint your wood slats in alternating red and white stripes. Make sure to leave a little less than a third of the width of the bench  to paint blue.  Then get a star stamp (you can even cut this from a potato) and stamp on those stars!  You can finish it off with a couple of coats of Minwax varnish in whatever sheen you prefer.

WE HAVE GREAT SUMMERTIME SPECIALS!

IAN GUTOSKIE

Once in every millennium there comes a talent creeping out of the mountains and snow covered forests of Canada. A man so saturated with natural talent that, in his short human lifespan, he could not begin to tap into the endless reservoir of his abilities..... Ian Gutoskie, ladies and gentlemen, is not this man. But he is from Canada, and he is a very funny comedian. Then again, with someone like Ricky Raez as his mentor, how could he not be funny? Be sure to catch at least one of his performances, or you're just missing out.

GREG HALL

Standing 6'5", Greg Hall's dreams of winning the Triple Crown as a jockey were dashed by the tender age of eight, so he picked up a guitar.  From the oil fields of West Texas, Hall's redneck pedigree was established at fifteen, yet he longed for something more.  Hall jokes that he did a rare thing in those parts...He learned to read.  Hall's entertainment career began as a performing songwriter after winning a prestigious Kennedy Center award at the American College Theatre Festival for 'Outstanding Achievement in Musical Composition'.

THE SUPERMOON

In case you missed the 'supermoon' last weekend, here's a short time lapse video of it sailing over New York City last Saturday night. From that distance, it doesn't appear extremely large, but it is beautiful and extremely bright! Click Here.

It's called a 'supermoon' because that is when the moon comes closest to the earth during the year.  Here's a fun website that you may want to bookmark among your favorites. It keeps up with the moon phases and gives you a "moon clock."

EASY SUMMER PARTY TIP

Grilling out can be a lot of fun, but when the temperature rises, you may be more comfortable serving your guests inside.

Taco parties are one of the easiest parties to have in your home. With all of the variations to the taco these days, it can make for a fabulous fiesta! You can buy the ready-made tacos, either crispy, soft or both. Mix up a filling of ground beef, chicken or fish. (There are a ton of recipes on the web.) Put your choice of toppings  out buffet style...shredded lettuce, tomatoes, guacamole, sour cream, chopped onions, refried beans, salsa,  hot sauce and anything else that sounds good! Coffee filters make great taco holders and can be served on paper plates. Think about it...your entrée gives you meat, vegetable and salad all in one. It's an easy clean-up because there's no need   for silverware or 'real' plates. Beverages can be Mexican beer iced in a cooler and/or a big pitcher of iced tea served in plastic cups.  Enjoy!

  RECIPE OF THE WEEK

MANGO SALSA RECIPE

Mangoes are in season and here's a different way to prepare this delicious fruit.  This is great to put on your fresh catch of the day before baking or scoop it up with your favorite chip.  Either way you are sure to enjoy the taste of summer with the flavor that only a mango can provide. ENJOY!

Prep time: 10 minutes

Ingredients
  • 1 ripe mango, peeled, pitted, and diced (about 1 1/2 cup) (See: How to Cut a Mango)
  • 1/2 medium red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 Jalapeño chile, minced (include ribs and seeds for a hotter taste if desired)
  • 1 small cucumber, peeled and diced (about 1 cup)
  • 3 Tbsp fresh cilantro leaves, chopped
  • 3 Tbsp fresh lime juice
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Also good with diced red bell pepper.

Combine all of the ingredients in a bowl. Season to taste with salt and pepper. If the salsa is a little too hot or acidic for your taste, you can temper it by adding some diced avocado.
