Hello FLASHERS!
It's time to whoop it up!
This is a great month! Its' my birthday month, my anniversary month, (28 years!) and FLASH turned 3 this week. WOW! Our first issue came out on April 8, 2010 with 12 subscribers. Since that day I have seen zillions of emails in my inbox, made a mind boggling number of phone calls, burned the candle at both ends...at the sides...and when the wax had time to set, I burned it again and again! Not to worry! Your publisher is not a pyromaniac, just a gal starting a new business. I wish you all could experience what I have in the last three years! I have learned so many wonderful things about our very special community and its incredibly wonderful, helpful, fun, and philanthropic local residents! Our FLASHERS are amazing and I owe an undying debt of gratitude to you all for embracing my venture! Thank you for your loyalty and for opening week after week, for your submissions, your suggestions, your unbelievable words of encouragement and praise! A VERY SPECIAL thank you to my advertisers who have made it possible to stay afloat! Thank you for believing in me and in FLASH and for standing with us through the years! FLASHERS...I encourage you to continue to patronize our advertisers...PLEASE keep your money going to our local businesses and it never hurts to mention that you saw them on FLASH. They are the heart that creates that uniquely local feel of Vero Beach!
Simply put you are ALL the very best of the best and please know I realize the success we have experienced would not have been possible without you! We recently surpassed 5,000 subscribers. What I wish for on FLASH's birthday is this....For every FLASHER to get at least one friend to subscribe. That would double our base overnight and enable us to reach so many more with our positive news on anything about everything! Won't you please take a moment to share us! I love my FLASHERS who don't keep us a secret! Thank you FLASHERS for making it a magical three years! Hats off and a group hug to all! Valerie Watkins Publisher

FLASH TIP OF THE WEEK
|

|

FLASH BEAUTY TIP OF THE WEEK Sponsored by: Center for Facial Aesthetics
What's the difference between Retin-A and retinol?
Both are retinoids. They're both made from vitamin A and promote faster skin cell turnover. And they're some of the most proven, effective, and powerful options for treating skin issues ranging from acne to signs of aging.
Retinoids come in prescription form and in a range of over-the-counter products.
Prescription-level retinoids fall into these groups:
* Tretinoin, including the brands Atralin, Retin-A, Retin-A Micro, and Renova
* Tazarotene, such as the brand Tazorac
* Adapalene, such as the brand Differin
All three groups prevent the buildup of dead cells in the skin's pores and follicles, and all three promote the growth of healthy cells. Common side effects include dryness, redness, irritation, and skin peeling as well as making skin more sensitive to the sun.
Retinol is found in many products that don't require a prescription. Retinols are much weaker than
prescription retinoids. Unless vitamin A is listed as one of the top five ingredients and the product is
packaged in an airtight opaque bottle, what you're getting might not be all that effective. Neither retinoids nor retinols should be used by breastfeeding or pregnant women.

FLASH WEEKEND PROJECT
|
On Saturday March 23 at 8 am, Captains arrived at the Power Squadron building to take the youth from the Boys and Girls Club boating and fishing. The youth began the morning event by being fitted with Personal Floatation Devices and hearing boating safety information, which they were quizzed on after their lunch. Prizes were awarded for catching the most fish, the least number of fish, and the biggest fish. We've heard this is the kid's favorite event of the year as many of them have never been boating or fishing.

The students of Oslo Middle School Art Instructor Harvey Kornicks have created an exciting array of art from recycled/repurposed items, which will be on display at the Indian River Habitat Home Center ReStore during the Earth Week Celebration, April 22-27.
The students have created around 60 artworks, using such diverse materials as ceiling fan blades, tile, table tops, lamp shades, cabinet doors, even surf boards, to name a few. The art will be auctioned and bidding will take place all week during store hours, 9-5, and will close at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 27. Between 1 and 2 on the 27th, sealed bids will be accepted, and winning bidders will be announced starting at 2 p.m. The public is cordially invited to visit the Home Center ReStore, especially during Earth Week, not only for the usual great stuff and super bargains, but also to enjoy the creative talents of Kornicks' students and, possibly, to find an original work of student art to take home. For more information, contact Sheradi Monroe at 772-562-9860 X204.
