WOW ... It's already March! Get ready...It's a busy month with many events on our calendar that are educational, fun, and entertaining! Make sure to check out the calendar at the bottom of the newsletter. We begin this busy month by springing forward with Daylight Savings time this weekend. Remember to set your clocks an hour later before you go to bed on Saturday. On the 17th we will celebrate the 'Luck of the Irish' with St. Patrick's Day. That Lucky day is extra lucky for me personally because this year my family will celebrate my mother's 80th birthday! Now seems the perfect time to give her a public 'Shout Out,' not only as the best Mother a girl could have, but also the best FLASH Research Editor. That's right...A lot of the interesting features you read in FLASH have been researched by my savvy and intelligent Mother. So kudos to Mom on the 17th! Moving on....The first day of spring will bloom on March 20th followed by Passover, Easter and Spring Break! That means there are some exciting issues to come that will be chock-full of wonderful postings to help make each and every event more fun and memorable. Get ready to ENJOY the remarkable month of March!

CUT ALZHEIMERS RISK IN HALF!
According to Dr. Oz and his partner Dr. Roizen, old age and dementia do not have to go hand in hand. Try these seven steps to help you keep all your marbles!
- Quit smoking. Not today. Yep. It's better to wait a month. Click on our realistic plan that will help you quit -- for good -- 30 days from now.
- Get active. Start small. Walk in place whenever you're on the phone. Eventually, put a treadmill or stationary bike in front of the TV, and don't watch unless your feet are in motion.
- Get smarter. Going back to school, especially for new job training, is a twofer: Brain work makes you sharper forever and improves your job odds in tough times.
- Brighten up. Fighting bouts of depression? See your doc about starting or changing medications. Walking daily is a powerful depression fighter. So are meditation and yoga.
- 6., and 7. Stop three brain threats at once. We're talking hypertension, obesity, and diabetes. What prevents or reverses them is identical: Eat more fruit, vegetables, fish, and 100% whole grains. Cut saturated fat and calories. Exercise 30 minutes a day. Lose weight. Enjoy feeling terrific!
Many of us seem to be locked into a sit-down lifestyle -- going from bed to commute to desk to dinner table to TV and to bed again! Did you know that standing burns 30% more calories than sitting, and even more if you stand up and sit down several times in a row as a mini exercise. You'll weigh less and have more ticker-healthy HDL cholesterol; lower triglyceride levels, blood sugar, and blood pressure; and a slimmer waist.

VERO BEACH POLO MATCHES
EVERY SUNDAY UNTIL APRIL 7TH
The Vero Beach Polo Season is in full swing! This is a must see event that is in our own backyard. The tailgate time is an event in and of itself. Bring chairs, picnic, and a radio so you can tune in to hear the exciting play by play announcement as the horses and riders come thundering past your field-side tailgate space. Dress casually and for the weather....there are often "polo winds" across the huge field making the temperature a bit chilly. Everyone enjoys the traditional "divot stomping" at half time....so flat shoes are recommended! The gate opens at 1 and the match starts at 2. If you don't want to rush to get a tailgate space you can always reserve one ahead for $50 and that would include up to 6 people in the total cost.....just call 778-2224 Monday through Friday. If it rains or the fields are too wet from a previous rain for safety, there will be a recording when you call (772) 778-2224 after 10 a.m. on Sunday to alert you to a cancellation.

FLASH BEAUTY TIP OF THE WEEK Sponsored by:
Bold Lip Color Hot Trend for Spring
From the runways to the streets, the bold lip trend is in full force. And come spring, this fiery look will only get hotter. From shocking purples to outrageous oranges, ladies have been trading in their usual neutrals for show stopping hues.
The new lip trends can be adapted to any situation. For a conservative look, use your strong lip color as the only makeup focus with little to no color on other facial features. To 'Power Dress' use your stronger, deeper lip color to convey strength and assertiveness. For your crazy night on the town, embrace the bright (almost neon) colors hitting the catwalks and fashion spreads this spring.
Try to commit to the bold lip color of this season. Makeup is an attitude, so wear your lipstick with confidence and don't let the lipstick wear you.

-1/3 cup baking soda -1 cup white vinegar -1 plastic bag -1 large bag twisty tie

4. Let the showerhead soak in the solution overnight or for at least 2-3 hours.

NESTING BAGS ~ A PERFECT THING FOR SPRING Springtime and chirping birds...They just go together and you'll have your feathered friends singing for joy with this springtime gift just for them. There is no doubt that you will enjoy exploring your yard in search of nesting birds. It's always fun to see which objects the birds selected from your nesting bag. To make your bag just recycle one of the mesh bags you get from the produce section. (ex. onion bag) Next, fill it with things like: Cotton balls, twigs, ribbon (non metallic), pet fur, human hair, raffia, yarn, small pieces of fabric etc.) Now go hang on a tree branch and sit back and ENJOY!

WEEKEND PROJECT
With spring in the air, Easter around the corner, and outside soirees in the near future, it's time to think of your outdoor living space and how you can spruce it up a bit. With a little home-grown moss you can be on your way to that English Garden look. Growing moss works best on terra cotta, stone, or concrete and requires an acidic environment...thus the buttermilk or yogurt in the recipe below.
- Blend pieces of dried moss or purchased moss spores into
- 2 cups yogurt or buttermilk or yogurt
- Paint onto your pot with a paintbrush
- Put your pot into a plastic bag to create a humid environment for the moss to develop or wrap loosely with plastic wrap .
- Set the pot and bag in a cool, shady spot until the moss begins to form, which will be about 10 days...In time for Easter.
- Make sure to plant the container so you will be watering it regularly, which will keep the moss alive and growing.
