HI FLASHERS, The Vero Beach Polo Season begins this weekend and if you have never been, this is a must 'go-to' event. This family friendly experience is something that everyone can enjoy and it is in our own backyard! The tailgate time is an event in and of itself. Bring chairs, picnic, and a radio on which to hear the announcer so you can enjoy the exciting play by play as the horses and riders come thundering past your field-side tailgate space. I suggest you dress casually and for the weather....there are often "polo winds" across the huge field and I believe it is cooling off a little this weekend. If it rains or the fields are too wet from a previous rain for safety, there will be a recording when you call (772) 778-2224 after 10 a.m. on Sunday to alert you to a cancellation. Everyone enjoys the traditional "divot stomping" at half time....so flat shoes are recommended! The gate opens at 1 and the match starts at 2. If you don't want to rush to get a tailgate space you can always reserve one ahead for $50 and that would include up to 6 people in the total cost.....just call 778-2224 Monday through Friday.
I have to give a 'Shout Out' here to a couple of our locals. One of the best female players in the nation, Vero Beach's own Tiffany Busch, is the anchor for one of the teams. Her photo is on the cover of the latest "Polo Players" magazine. And two 18 year old standouts are Hayden Walsh and Devon Kahle, both seniors at St. Edwards. Pros hail from around the world, so there is definitely an international flavor to the sport. For more info and the season calendar Click Here. There are many other fun events going on, so check out our calendar and get out there and enjoy life and Vero Beach! Valerie Watkins

WARNING FOR PARENTS
By now you have probably read the news stories about the dangers of bath salts being used as a toxic "cocktail" by kids. Broward County recently officially recognized this danger by banning the sale of these products countywide. Even though the products carry labels that say "unfit for human consumption," they are often ingested to produce an intoxication similar to the effects of cocaine or LSD according to a report by CNN. Bath salts can be inhaled, smoked or digested and have names like Blue Silk and Ivory Snow. The American Association of Poison Control Centers have seen calls about exposure to bath salts increase from 304 in 2010 to 6,100 in 2011! Because children may have seen many of these products in the bathrooms of their own homes, they may not realize the danger of this "ordinary" product. |

UNSTICK STUCK GLASSES
Have you ever stacked two glasses, one inside the other, and they became stuck? Next time try this: Fill the top glass with cold water and ice cubes and let it sit awhile. Then put the bottom glass of the stack in hot water. This should make it easy to pull the glasses apart. Science is helping you. The cold water contracts the glass, and the hot water expands it. |

FLASH FUNNY FOR OUR GOLFERS!
Golf and Marriage
Joe decided to tie the knot with his long time girlfriend.
One evening, after the honeymoon, he was cleaning his golf clubs for his Saturday game. His wife Gerry was standing at the bench watching him. After a long period of silence she finally speaks.
Honey, I've been thinking, now that we are married I think it's time you quit playing so much golf. Maybe you should sell your clubs and cancel your membership at the golf club.
Joe gets this horrified look on his face.
She says, "Darling, what's wrong?"
"There for a minute you were sounding like my ex-wife."
"Ex wife!," she screams, "I didn't know you were married before!"
"I wasn't " |

FLASH BEAUTY TIP OF THE WEEK Sponsored by:
Make-up was once simply a product we used to cover flaws. Today's high quality mineral make-up lines such as the #1 recommended, Jane Iredale, have evolved into a tool to enhance and improve your skin. Jane Iredale is priced similarly to department store lines, but includes the highest quality ingredients, making it the most recommended make-up line by physicians, and medical spas year after year.
Mineral makeup is available in a variety of formulations that include, liquid foundation, pressed powder or loose powder foundations, BB creams, and tinted moisturizers, that provide a range of finishes from sheer to full, from luminescent to velvety.
We invite all FLASHERS to come in for a complimentary make-up lesson and application. This free, one-on-one session with our make-up artist with over 20 years experience, will help you understand the ingredients in the makeup, how they affect your skin, which formulation is right for you skin type, and what colors are best for your skin tone.
Our specials for Vero Beach Flasher's are:
- A Complimentary Make-up Application and Lesson
- 20-50% off any Jane Iredale purchase
- Gift with any $50 purchase
- 10% off any service booked within 30 days of Make-over appointment
- And a Free professional Brow Shaping
Often when women have a make-over they tell the make-up artist exactly what they want them to use on them: No, I only like liquid foundation; "No, I like my eye shadow bright blue; No, I like my eyeliner darker, heavier;" etc, etc. We encourage you to tell the artist what you are comfortable with and what your routine is but then be willing to try something new! You are sure to come away with at least one tip that is new and fresh for your daily routine.

JANUARY FISHING CALENDAR (The darker the fish ~ The better the day for fishing)
|
 .
~ FLASH TIP OF THE WEEK ~
Homemade Ice Packs
Here is the how-to:
1 cup of rubbing alcohol Glad bags now make a 'wide seal' bag that I think would be great for this. I suggest putting the mixture into one bag, releasing air, and then seal bag. I have heard people hot gluing the bag closed...but that is a bit much for me. However, I do suggest double or triple bagging the solution. Then stick it in the freezer for that unfortunate moment with some homemade TLC will make everything better! Always loosely wrap in a cloth before placing on skin. It will become malleable quickly. Over time if and when the bag begins to wear and leak, simply pour solution into a new bag and triple bag again and you will be good to go. Give it a try! |
WEEKEND DO-IT-YOURSELF PROJECT
Here is a super link I found this week that shows you how to make these trendy over-sized candle sticks without leaving your wallet without a jingle. Remember that you can get free or 25 cent cuts on wood at Home Depot, so don't let the power saw scare you away from trying this!

FLASH RECIPE OF THE WEEK EGGS WITH FLAIR
Nothing tricky here...Just points for a great presentation! Cut a bell pepper into rings. Crack an egg into each of them. Cook on low heat. You can flip if you want to seal the tops too!Aren't we all impressed? ... ENJOY!

VIDEO OF THE WEEK

DANCE OF THE FLOWERS
We think this is the loveliest video that we have ever seen and it's very aptly named. Watch the flowers opening as they 'dance' to the music. Each flower is filmed for 2 days and photos are collated within 7 minutes to get this effect. Enjoy!
