So FLASHERS... How are those New Year's resolutions coming along? For those who are still on track, FLASH gives you one, big, enormous, 'Shout-Out!' To those who are faltering a bit I say, "Don't give up!" Every new day is as good a new start as January first! Figure this...You have 355 more opportunities for a new start in 2013. Never give up!
Last week I suggested keeping a memory Jar. I am doing this and will jot down fun things that happen in 2013. I am already looking forward to reliving those events in 2014 when I will randomly select a cherished moment from the jar and allow it to work its magic once again. I have thought of a few other things that I would like to do in 2013. It is more like a bucket list than a new year's resolution list that I feel is really a disguised 'To-Do List.' My new resolution 'bucket list' has a much better chance at getting a few check-offs by December 31st. That means that a couple of things on my chore 'To-Do List' might actually get done too. We all know that the happier and less stressed we are, the more capable we are to handle life and it's 'To-Do Lists.' Here is my bucket list...oops I mean resolution list! I gladly share it with the hope that you too might include some 'fun' things on your list too. 1) Travel more...Even if it means short little weekend get-aways. 2) Learn something new...Take a class or lessons. (Haven't decided yet. But maybe piano) 3) Make some quality time for family and old friends ... (Could work in a trip with some old high school or college friends. I also want to plan a weekend get-away with each of my three children, ages 22 - 26. That happens next weekend with a little jaunt to Atlanta to celebrate my middle daughter's 24th birthday. There is nothing like that one-on-one time with your kids... No matter how old they are. 4) Find a new fulfilling way to give back to the community. Take some time to volunteer. 5) Be creative and practice random acts of kindness...often! 6) Participate in, or plan a Flash Mob. Seems fitting for FLASH to coordinate a Flash Mob ... Don't you think? Any takers???

HEALTH TIP
CANCER UPDATE Men and women respectively have become much, much better at getting screenings for Prostate and Breast Cancer. Unfortunately, however, according to the National Cancer Institute, Lung and Bronchial Cancer cause more deaths than those two put together! The second deadliest cancer is Colon and Rectal Cancer. A Colonoscopy is usually recommended at the age of 50 unless there's a family history or other risk factors involved. Early lung cancer detection has been less successful, so it's best to make sure your primary physician is staying on top of your general health and that you are taking preventive measures yourself like not smoking. |

FLASH BEAUTY TIP OF THE WEEK Sponsored by:
10 New Year's Beauty Resolutions
Resolution #1 ~ Wash your face every night before bed Resolution #2 ~ Get rid of your mascara every six months-it's a breeding ground for bacteria!
If you notice a change in smell throw it out sooner. Resolution #3 ~ Now's a great time to clean out your makeup bag. (Really, when was
the last time you used that Chapstick? It has fuzzies all over it.) Resolution #4 ~ Take a multivitamin every day. Resolution #5 ~ Clean your makeup brushes weekly, since build-up can lead to breakouts or
infections. Resolution #6 ~ Most people don't realize that the sun's UV rays are still strong even when it's
cold out. While most of your body parts are covered, be sure to wear
sunscreen on your face and hands-even in the winter and on cloudy days. Resolution #7 ~ Get the perfect shade of foundation by using your jawline to test. This area is
the most evenly toned part of your face and won't leave you looking like you
have two distinct skin colors. Resolution #8 ~ Commit to a skin-care routine. Try a new regimen for at least two weeks
before changing products, as this is the amount of time it usually takes for a
formula's results to show. Resolution #9 ~ Start using an eye cream. It's never too early or late to fight fine lines and
wrinkles! Resolution #10 ~ Eat more good-for-your-skin foods like salmon, almonds, and berries.

WHAT NOT TO SAY TO YOUR KIDS We all know some of the obviously wrong and hurtful things that shouldn't be said to a child, but it may surprise you to discover that some seemingly harmless phrases can trigger resentment and damage self-esteem too. This article from Women's Day Magazine, gives examples of some of these as identified by two parenting experts. Click Here (The page might take a moment to load.) |

U.S. CENSUS PROJECTIONS
This is an interesting article about the future make-up of the U.S. population. Every few years, the Census releases its projections based on current trends for how many people of every possible combination of age, sex, race and ethnicity will live in the United States over the next half century. There's an interactive chart at the end where you can enter your personal information and learn how many people similar to you will be alive at a specific date. For example, if you were born in 1960, approximately 270,000 people that will be100 years old (like you!) will be living in the U.S. in 2060. To get the chart, Click here.
