Dear FLASHERS, At this special time of year I am so thankful for many things, at the top of the list is the gift of your friendship and loyalty. I know you have heard it many times before....but thank you for allowing me to serve you. I appreciate your trust, confidence, and patience as we have worked out some of our kinks more than I have words to convey and I look forward to serving you in the years to come. My hope is that we have provided 'positive' information that has made you chuckle, tested your creativity, made you think, inspired you, saved you a bit of your jingle, and taught you something new! Please know that FLASH always welcomes your feedback and information. Please use our bulletin board to tap into the knowledge and expertise of our nearly 5,000 subscribers, nominate a positive person, and send us an email with your thoughts! Merry Christmas FLASHERS! Enjoy family, friends and memory making and God Bless each and every one of you! Remember the best gift of all is the gift of time! Not only during this special holiday season but all year long! Be kind to each other and help others whenever you can. Hopefully together we can create and spread a kinder and gentler existence. In light of the recent Shady Hook tragedy I know that is something we all wish for.

(From Our Archives) Some folks say that it is not politically correct to say "Merry Christmas" to You because You may take offense. PC is for politicians who must get elected. Not me. When I wish You "Merry Christmas" I mean it. I don't just mean Happy Holidays. I mean Merry Christmas. I am a Christian but, I am not trying to convert You or force my religious beliefs on You. Christmas is important to me, so wishing You "Merry Christmas" shows how I feel about You. So, Merry Christmas! I hope happiness finds You And, although I am not Buddhist, when I say "Merry Christmas" please hear "A peaceful and joyful Vesak" Merry Christmas! I wish that You have a season full of joy And, although I am not Jewish, when I say "Merry Christmas" please hear "Happy Hannukah" Merry Christmas! I hope You have Days of plenty And although I am not Muslim, when I say "Merry Christmas" please hear "Have a blessed Ramadan" Merry Christmas! I wish that your friends and family are safe and happy Although I am not of African descent, when I say "Merry Christmas" please hear "Joyous Kwanzaa" Merry Christmas! I hope You find some joy every day Although I am not an atheist, when I say "Merry Christmas" please hear, "I wish You happiness" I don't know Your religious beliefs, or even if You have any but, I do, sincerely and with all my heart wish You a very Merry Christmas! |

FLASH BEAUTY TIP OF THE WEEK Sponsored by:
COSMETIC vs. COSMETICALS
With the number of skin products out on the market; and everyone promising to make you look beautiful and younger, it is hard to know what is really the product that will work for you.
Cosmetic Products are those that only deliver their ingredients at a very superficial level into the skin. They do not delay your skin's aging process because they work at the upper most layer of the Epidermis which is top most layer of the skin. Cosmetic products are available over the counter in department stores, through the internet and supermarkets as they are not as active as cosmeceutical products and therefore poses less risk of damage.
Cosmeceutical Products have pharmaceutical benefits to your skin. Cosmeceutical products contain active ingredients that act on the skin's cellular structure through topical application. They are more concentrated, purer and more effective. They are only available from professional skin care clinics as skin analysis and consultation is essential before any cosmeceutical products can be prescribed to address skin concerns and conditions. The delivery system of the active ingredients in cosmeceutical products are proficient and can penetrate into the deeper level of your skin and effect the natural cellular activity. When choosing your cosmeceutical product, they must: ~ contain antioxidants, ~ contain enzymatic exfoliants, ~ be able to communicate with the cells, ~ contain skin lightening ingredients, and ~ contain intercellular substances that mimic skin structure and induce healing. Now You Know!

WEEKEND PROJECT
Create Your Own Back-splash...It's Easy! This is a fun project that at first glimpse is a bit intimidating, but in reality is quite simple! I created a counter top out of glass buttons that I purchased from the dollar store and completed the entire project in a few hours for under $50. You can be as creative as you want with this. You can incorporate pebbles, seashells, sea glass, buttons, pennies, broken china, corks, almost anything. They even used galvanized steel washers in the link below. Give it a go! Click Here

CHUCKLE OF THE WEEK
Dear John,
When I received the partridge in a pear tree, I thought it was a lovely gift, however, I didn't expect you to continue to send a gift each day. Because of the 2 turtle doves, the 3 French hens, and the 4 calling birds, I now have droppings all over the house and the noise they're making is driving me crazy! When the 5 golden rings arrived, I was very pleased, (although I don't really need one for each finger), but then I received the 6 geese-a-laying. The next day, I found 7 swans swimming in my pool. What's with the birds, John?? But at least they were less trouble than the 8 maids-a-milking that came with their cows! As if they weren't enough, I then received 9 pipers playing, 10 ladies dancing, and 11 lords-a-leaping. You know I only have a two bedroom house. I thought surely you would stop, but then the 12 fiddlers arrived making even more noise! The neighbors are complaining and I have received notice from the Zoning Board that I am being fined $1,000! This is goodbye, John. I hope you will get the help you obviously need. You will be hearing from my attorneys. Mary

CUTEST CHRISTMAS CAKE EVER!
This is a simple cake that you can make with any of your favorite cake mixes. A Christmas sugar and spice cake with cream cheese frosting is what I plan to try. There are several ways I thought of to create the strawberry faces. 1) Make small meringue balls that you can secure to the strawberry with a dab of icing. 2) Use a dollop of icing. (double your icing recipe to make sure you have enough) 3) You could create with ice cream and bring out just before serving. . I can't wait to make this for Christmas dinner!

CHRISTMAS CANDY HEALTH TIP!
Would you believe that there is a benefit in eating a Christmas candy cane? I heard about this tip from a friend. Apparently, studies have shown that sucking on a peppermint candy cane will give you a quick burst of energy, instantly clearing clogged sinuses that make you feel sluggish and cause brain fog. Try it and see if it works for you. Any reason to eat candy can't be all bad!

U.S. Troops Will Have a Christmas to Remember
Our troops around the globe can count on a great holiday season, thanks to an outpouring of support from residents of IRC for the Military Moms Prayer Group's 7th Annual Holidays for Heroes drive. An estimated 2,500 boxes bearing hand-written cards, food, and gifts are now en route from Florida to servicemen and women stationed in far-flung outposts. "The response from Indian River County has been extraordinary," says Lynn Marie Saint Vincent, Coordinator of the Holidays for Heroes program. "More students, individuals and groups than ever before have taken part in this outreach effort. As a result, we hope our troops will have a Christmas they will never forget." Thank you FLASHERS for your support! Pictured above are: Clockwise from bottom right: Jeff Krasnow, Michele Scales, Pam Proctor, Jane Fini, Lynn Marie Saint-Vincent, Karly Krasnow, Rosemary Spellacy, Denise Gates. DECEMBER H.E.T.Y. AWARD In light of all the loss our country has felt these past several days, weeks, and months from across the nation; the most one can do is something good for someone else. On the whole, Girard Equipment is a steward of that very notion. Feeling the need to think globally but act locally, Girard Equipment has created the HETY Award (Helping Equip Today's Youth) to offer a hand up to those in the Indian River area who need it most. Each month the HETY Award is given to a different youth focused group. This month's award of $300 was given to Feed the Lambs Electrical 101. Feed the Lambs Electrical 101, founded by Leon Foster, is an organization devoted to giving older kids the ability to learn a skill that can make them a viable asset to the trades. Working closely with Habitat for Humanity on the homes they construct for qualifying families, the teens in this program learn residential electrical basics through on- the-job experience.

CHRISTMAS AT BY THE RIVER
By the River hosted a lovely Christmas party for their residents. Members and Pastor Karen Leedahl of Christ the King Lutheran Church selected By the River as a place they wanted to share their hearts and bring the holiday spirit. They organized a play of the Nativity in full costume and kids brought toiletries for all our residents. They also asked our residents what they'd like for Christmas so they came back to deliver personal gifts to all our seniors. Their choir and volunteers sang Christmas songs and got everyone in the holiday spirit. It was a very special day and above are photos of the great time that was had by all.
