MOVING ON
My husband and I recently moved to a wonderful 'old Florida' style house where we can combine our home and our offices. It's located near the Main Library and we love being able to walk to 'downtown'. What we don't love is trying to unpack boxes while keeping up with our workload. With our three children in college, they aren't around to help. It's been a bit overwhelming, but I recently read a quote from blogger Emily Walker and it's going to be my new mantra: "Let go of perfection and be okay with pretty good." What a great idea! I know many of you are also feeling pressured to get everything done, so I hope you will join me in realizing that "pretty good" is really good enough. In this issue, I think you'll find some ideas to help make your life a little easier and some things to do that will make it a lot more fun. The fun can start tonight! Why not head over to Riverside Theatre for Treasure Nights Trunk Show. (see post below) Stop by our sponsor table and say hi! We love meeting our FLASHERS!

CLUTTER TIP
HANDLING YOUR COLLECTIONS
The 19th Century architect, William Morris once said, "Have nothing in your home that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful." Chances are you 'collect' something....figurines, snow globes, or whatever. Maybe with gifts from family and friends, it's grown too large. What to do? Fernanda Moore, writing in Ladies' Home Journal suggests becoming a "curator" instead of a "collector." A gallery or museum curator selects items with an eye toward quality and significance; (in the case of your collection, this means how important an item is to you.) Keep only those that you really love and give away the rest. If you can't really part with certain ones, store them in a box and "rotate" them the way a gallery curator does artwork. You can also break up your collection by placing an item or two in each room in the house. Rather than overcrowding on one shelf, it might make your objects even more visible!

COMEDY ZONE @ RIVERSIDE THEATRE This Weekend October 19th & 20th SHOWTIMES AT 7:30 and 9:30 $18 EACH FRANKIE PAUL
Frankie Paul is fast becoming a prominent force in the world of comedy! Frankie Paul has a unique knack for taking a typically unnoticeable situation to new levels of hysterics. With loveable animated appearance and inoffensive attitude, Frankie Paul takes his crowd on a silly roller coaster ride of uproarious laughter. After it's over the crowd is drained but wants another ride. If laughter is truly the medicine, then Frankie Paul should be the Surgeon General. Don't miss him!!!!
GID POOL Gid's comedy has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, and on both the NBC TV network and America On Line. He also teaches comedy to passengers on cruise lines. His irreverent look at how kids are being raised, the challenges of trying to stay young, and a lot of other things that are "wrong" with the world, has made him a hit at comedy, country, and yacht clubs...plus a few redneck bars. He's one of a kind!

HELPING YOUR CHILD LEARN IN SCHOOL
By: Karen Mersky, Ph.D
.
As a licensed clinical psychologist with a strong interest in education, I often tell my clients that a good education is one of the most important gifts you can give your children. By helping to make sure your child learns to read fluently and with comprehension, develops sound mathematical skills, and is able to communicate ideas in writing in a clear way, while also learning how to learn and apply those skills for greater understanding, you're creating a pathway for your child that can lead to many opportunities in the future. In addition, because of the many hours students spend in school and then completing homework, a student's school experience can affect confidence and self-esteem, which can then play a role in what is gained from future days at school. So how can you help your child be successful in school?

CELEBRATE SWEETEST DAY
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 20TH
A day to do something kind for someone in need.
Sweetest Day is a day to make others feel special. It is celebrated each year on the third Saturday in October. It is a day to take the time to do something kind for someone less fortunate than you. Sweetest Day originated in Cleveland, OH in 1922 by Herbert Birch Kingston, a local candy company employee. Kingston wanted to bring cheer and happiness to those who had fallen on hard times. With the help of some of his friends, they began giving small gifts and candy to the less fortunate and to people in need to show that they had not been forgotten. Today, it is celebrated all over the country and gains in popularity every year. Sweetest Day is a day to remind us that a thoughtful word, deed or small gift can enrich the life of the recipient as well as your own. Let's all do something nice for someone this Saturday!
