April 2016
Celebrating libraries and volunteers
National Library Week - April 10-15
National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association and libraries across the country each April. It is a time to both celebrate the contributions of our nation's libraries and promote library use and support.
Literacy DuPage works closely with more than 30 libraries in DuPage County to provide our learners the resources they need to strengthen their English skills. Local libraries also give our tutors a place to train and meet their learners. Please join us in thanking our libraries and librarians for all they do! Read more.

Volunteer Appreciation Month
Many thanks to all our volunteers, who together donated time worth more than $500,000 in 2015! April is Volunteer Appreciation Month and we would love to recognize your work by sharing some of your stories on our Facebook page. If you have any interesting or memorable experiences with your learner that you think might serve as an inspiration for potential volunteers, please email Sang Lee at slee@literacydupage.org. Submissions can be short and ideally should include a photo of you and your learner.
Get ready to run!
Giving DuPage Human Race - Saturday, April 30
We have 16 people signed up to run or walk on our Laps for Literacy team at the Human Race and we would love to have at least nine more people join us. Tutors are encouraged to contact Sang Lee at slee@literacydupage.org if their learner is interested in taking part in the race, as Literacy DuPage may be able to cover their registration fee.

The 5K run and 2-mile walk begin at 9 a.m. at The Esplanade at Locust Point, 1901 W. Butterfield Road in Downers Grove. Registration is available through www.dupagehumanrace.org. Prices are $45 for runners and $40 for the walk. Read more.
Training for Naperville Marathon
It's not too early to start thinking about the Naperville Marathon, scheduled for October 23. As a Charity Partner, we are offering runners a $10 discount off the registration fees.

In addition, we are also hosting two Saturday workshops for anyone running in the race titled "Preparing for your First Half Marathon or Marathon" from 3-4 p.m. on April 9 and May 7 at Standard Market Grill, 1508 Aurora Avenue in Naperville. The workshop is free, but attendees should RSVP. Call (630) 416-6699. Read more.
