Vacation Bible School

We had a great week at Everest Vacation Bible School!  We had 282 kids plus 100 volunteers throughout the week here at First Church.  It sure was a mighty and powerful week.  You could hear children's laughter, singing, and enjoyment throughout the building as we learned about God's power to provide, comfort, heal, forgive, and to love us forever.

We will all remember to Hold On to God!

Summer Sunday School

Summer Sunday School is offered every Sunday through August 30th at 9:30 a.m. Children are expected, encouraged, and welcomed to come to the sanctuary and participate in the first part of the worship service with the rest of the First Church family. After a Children's Time in worship, the children and adult helpers will leave for Sunday School in room 120.

Summer Worship Outdoors

Weather permitting, the 8:00 am worship service will be outdoors in the Chapel in the Woods, thru Labor Day weekend, Sept. 6.

HOT DOG BOOTH

Come and share the day as we celebrate the Fourth of July on  SUNDAY, JULY 5TH!  This is a great opportunity for us to welcome our friends and neighbors who come to watch the parade which begins at 1 pm and makes its way down Dole Avenue.  At 11:00 am, we will begin selling hot dogs and concessions.  If you are interested in helping with the  Hot Dog Booth, please email Karen Kopp or call the church office.  Proceeds this year will support SUMMONED2SERVE ~MEALS FOR LIBERIA.

Love Gardening???

We are looking for anyone interested in helping us maintain, water, & weed the plants in the island areas in the church parking lot. This task could have several volunteers on a rotation type basis if need be to accomodate everyone's schedules. Anyone interested in helping for the summer should contact Jack Gilmer

at: 312-218-3827.

Stephen Ministry Moment

Could you use a listening ear? A confidential friend? A Christian guide?  Stephen Ministry is available to all First Church members and the community age 18 and older.  Each Stephen Minister has received many hours of training and continues to receive support and training through peer group activities.  A minister will be matched with you based on your need.  You might meet together once a week or twice a month, and for as long or short as you would benefit.  If you would like to know more about having a Stephen Minister visit with you, please contact one of our pastors  815-459-0785 or Barb Bradford 815-459-5346.  Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.  Galatians 6:2

Summoned2Serve

August 8-9

Email Kevin Williams

Summoned2Serve is an outreach and ministry event that has become part of the fabric of First Church. If you have served over the past 3 years, then you know what it means to make a difference in our community, and to the children and families who struggle to feed their families every day. The need is great, the mission is critical, and we need your help to make it happen.

We begin our weekend of service on Saturday, August 8 by helping those in our own local community. Helping the elderly, supporting our school age children, and providing for some of the most vulnerable of our society . . . groups will fan out on Saturday to make a difference right here in McHenry County. This is a great opportunity for the whole family to get together to help others. If you have small children and still wish to participate, we will have activities at the church available for those parents.

On Sunday, August 9, we will not have services at the church. Instead we will meet at McHenry County College at 9:30 a.m to pack meals of rice and nutrients to be sent abroad. Last year, we packed 100,000 meals and we plan to do the same again this year! That's 100,000 chances to provide sustenance for someone who may otherwise go hungry for the day . . . 100,000 chances for God and His people to make a difference.
