Outreach Weekend

Join us for complimentary appetizers Nov. 22nd after the 5:00 pm service or complimentary breakfast Nov. 23rd from 7:00-11:00am to learn more about outreach opportunities in the church. This will be a hands on experience for the whole family that highlights local, regional and global opportunities for short term and long term commitments. This weekend will highlight areas in which we are all Sent to Serve.

UMM Mission Trip

United Methodist Men Mission opportunity to travel to Rockford and work with the Rockford Urban Ministries program. We will be working on Friday November 21 through mid afternoon Saturday November 22. The work will include tearing out the flooring in three bedrooms and replacing it with underlayment  and other projects depending on the number of men we have available. Please remember that no special skills are needed, just a desire to help someone who is in need. If you would like to help please contact Jim Nelson 815-455-3023, Bob Riepl 815-455-4474 or Carl Moon 815-455-0491.

If you are heading somewhere warm for the winter, please notify Janet in the church office with the date you plan to leave, your return date and your winter address.. When the church sends bulk mail, it doesn't get forwarded but is returned to the church so it is helpful if we have this information.

Advent By Candlelight

We have all of our Advent by Candlelight table hostesses in place, now all we need is you! November 8th and 9th is the final weekend to sign up for Advent by Candlelight.  This year's dinner will be held on Friday, December 5, 2014 at 6 PM in Wesley Hall. Consider blessing yourself with this evening!  Come and celebrate Christmas with us,  as we prepare our hearts for our Savior's birth.  If you plan to attend please sign up on the board in the Narthex or contact Susan Kovack or Margie Moon with your reservation.  Spaces are limited, so sign up soon!

College Connection

We are a group that provides support through prayer, notes of encouragement, mentoring, and exam "survival kits".

Email Marianne Hill,  or message her on Facebook with any questions or to volunteer. We will be accepting items in the front office for our care packages through November 16.

Communion Servers Needed

We are looking for two people to help serve and prepare communion for the 2nd Sunday of every month at 8:00 a.m. worship. If you are interested, please call Deidre in the office at 815-459-0785.

Advent Candle lighters

Each year, as we gather to await the coming of Christmas, part of our waiting involves lighting the candles on the Advent wreath during the four weekend worship services leading up to Christmas.

You can play a part by lighting the candles and leading the liturgy during one of the Advent services.  Individuals, families or groups of friends are invited to serve as candle lighters. Liturgy will be provided to you.  Advent begins this year on November 29/30.

We are also looking for people to light the candles during each of the 3 Christmas Eve services - 6:00 p.m., 9:00 p.m. or 11:00 p.m.

If you are interested in serving this way, please email Deidre Joynt in the church office or call 815-459-0785.

White Angel Mission

This year marks the 20th year of a great First Church holiday tradition started by Patrice Alexander and Harriett Imler....the White Angel gift mission.  Can you believe it, 20 years ago!  This mission provides gifts to kids who have HIV/AIDS at the University of Chicago Children's Hospital and their caregivers.  We have been told by the hospital staff that in many cases this is the only gifts many these kids will receive this Christmas.  Over those last 20 years, this congregation has been very generous with their support of this mission.

Our Small Group will be manning the table in the Narthex starting November 8th and then over the next few weekends.  We'll be happy to answer any questions you have and fill in the details.  Please stop by to pick out "your Angel" from the group of 175 that we have.

And from all of us, THANK YOU!
