TORAH PORTION
B'har ... On Mount [Sinai]
Leviticus 25:1-26:2
The Eternal One spoke to Moses on Mount Sinai: "Speak to the Israelite people and say to them: When you enter the land that I assign to you, the land shall observe a sabbath of the Eternal." - Leviticus 25:1-2
  • God instructs Moses to tell the Israelites that in every seventh year, the land shall observe a Sabbath of complete rest: Fields should not be sown and vines should not be pruned. (25:1-7)
  • After forty-nine years, a jubilee year is to be celebrated when all the land that had been sold during that time should be returned to its original owners and slaves are to be freed. (25:8-55)
  • God instructs Moses to tell the Israelites not to make idols, to keep the sabbath, and to venerate the sanctuary of the Eternal. (26:1-2)

Shabbat Candle Lighting 8:23 pm on Friday, May 27, 2016

Greetings!

NEVER FORGET
On Sunday May 22, in remembrance of Holocaust Month, CNT, in conjunction with KSU, presented A Survivor's Son. Reuven Milikofsky, pictured below, told of his family's plight during the Holocaust. He explained that his parents were separated during the war. His mother was a slave laborer and his father was a partisan. His parents survived and immigrated to Israel where he was born. Mr. Milikofsky told a heartfelt story as relayed to him by his parents. One thing of note that many people were not aware of was that not everybody was numbered. He stated that his mother was not numbered because she was a laborer. There was a question and answer session following the talk, followed by a nosh. Over fifty guests joined us for this enlightening program. Kudos to all who helped to make it happen.  Bob Abrams, CNT Board

The video of Reuven's talk can be seen at https://youtu.be/WLgO1aBBgXo

We welcome your input and suggestions!

JOIN US FOR A SPECIAL MOVIE
ABOUT THE CATSKILLS
Sunday, June 5 at 3:00 pm at CNT
We are planning a special movie about the Catskills at our next
and last meeting for this year. Then we'll go out to dinner.

Kutsher's Country Club was the last surviving Jewish resort in the Catskills. One of the legendary Borscht Belt hotels during its heyday, Kutsher's was family-owned and operated for over 100 years.
Exploring the full Dirty Dancing-era Catskills experience - and how it changed American pop culture in the comedy, sports and vacation
industries - this award-winning documentary captures a last glimpse
of a lost world as it disappears before our eyes.

THE SYRIAN BRIDE
Saturday, June 11 at 7:00 pm
Join us for a viewing of the comedy-drama The Syrian Bride. The story deals with a Druze wedding and the troubles the politically unresolved situation creates for the personal lives of the people in and from their village. The movie's plot looks at the Arab-Israeli conflict through the story of a family divided by political borders, and explores how their lives are fractured
by the region's harsh political realities. The film has garnered critical acclaim and has won or been nominated internationally for several notable awards.

Click HERE for a preview of the film.

The more we have, the bigger our success.

HELP FEED THE HUNGRY
Brooke Meyer: May 28, 2016

For my bat mitzvah project, I would like to help the hungry.
I have been volunteering at the food bank, and they opened up
my eyes to all the people that are starving out in the world.
But what really hit my heart hard is that one innocent child dies from
hunger every six seconds. These coupons that you will help me collect will be sent to a company called Alive Ministries. Alive Ministries takes in unused coupon inserts. Please don't cut them out. There will be specially marked boxes in the synagogue to put in your coupons you could also turn in money into the box because for every dollar donated is $9.21 in food. Your coupons that you help me collect will be used to buy food for the hungry and the money will help buy the food too. After the food is bought it is delivered to food pantries all around the U.S.A, where the hungry will come and pick it up or volunteers dive around and drop it off at their houses. Please bring in your coupons or cash. Even the smallest donation will help make a big difference in the world. Help me stop hunger one coupon at a time.

BOOKS FOR TEENS IN NEED
Hayden Doleys: June 4, 2016

For my Bat Mitzvah project, I am collecting books to pass out to
teens in need. To date I have collected a combination of 400 gently used and new books!  On February 19, 2016, I passed out 200 gently used and new books at a party at Sandy Springs Middle School during an after-school program for at-risk youth. On March 20, I passed books out to teenagers living in homeless shelters at a teen program at Mad Mad Whirled.
I will continue collecting new books through my Bat Mitzvah
to donate to Amy's Holiday Party held each December.

How can you help? Please donate a new book from the Amazon Wish
list created for this Bat Mitzvah Project by following this link:
http://tinyurl.com/haydensbatmitzvahproject, or donate money and I'll
do the shopping!
I am working with Amy Zeide, who created CCC
years ago with her own Bat Mitzvah project. Feel free to contact her,
and see how you can get involved in her organization!
