Balance

Fall is in full swing and our monthly newsletter campaign revolving around the topic of POWER continues. I sure am glad we decided to add Facebook as a means to view, describe, and complement each month's tip! If the feedback is any indication, our students are too!  January through September's tips on subjects of stretching, strengthening, and drills for power are also  archived on our website (along with all previous year's newsletter tips) so you can refer to them as often as you would like.

Last month we hit a home run when we brought physics into the POWER equation. This month we high light an integral part of any athletic movement, BALANCE. Again, if you use Facebook please like us and watch me describe balance using the Boditrak.

Picture 1
In Picture 1, take a look at the posture of frequent Classic Swing Golf School student, Dr. Tom Brown, who was kind enough to demonstrate this month's tip.

With a good tilt of the spine (as discussed in our May tip), he should feel 50/50 weight (or pressure) distribution between his heels and his toes as well as on his lead and trail foot as the foundation for address.

The key then becomes:
As the weight or pressure moves from startup to the top, and from the top to the finish, how well can the weight be kept between the heels and toes?

Picture 2
Boditrak utilizes the 80/20 guideline for pressure on the trail foot at the top of the backswing and 80/20 on the lead foot at impact (Picture # 2).

So what is the key? The ability to keep your pressure between your heels and your toes!! Therefore, YOU MUST MAINTAIN YOUR SPINE ANGLE until well after you hit the ball.

Picture 3

With a power fan or alignment stick (go heavy or light), I like to see my students swing the instruments or golf club as fast as they can while maintaining balance all the way to the finish (Picture # 3).

Next month I will highlight three of my favorite balance exercises for power in the golf swing. For you yoga enthusiasts, you are well on your way.

Everyone likes a birdie, so enjoy your turkey this Thanksgiving. We are thankful to all of you for following, visiting and trusting in Classic Swing Golf School.
