For many of you March is the month to truly begin focusing on your golf game for the upcoming year. This year's newsletter campaign is all about power, and each tip is designed to get our bodies primed to deliver it!
I introduced the pressure mat in January and began to discuss the pivot, or the motion of the body, for power. In February we saw three power exercises that, if done for 15 minutes, 3 times per week, promise to improve core stability. The bottom line in all these exercises, tips and stretches is, in order to furnish more power, the body must get stronger and more flexible so you can avoid injury.
The swing drills and tips I will provide in the upcoming months can definitely enhance power, and your body needs to be flexible and strong. Injury is just around the corner if you omit these goals from your plan as you look to improve your overall golf game.
This month I want to highlight some stretches for the hips, shoulders, and torso. My goal is to improve your posture in the starting position. With improved posture we can improve our turn, or pivot, and therefore have the capability for more POWER.
I titled this month's tip The POWER of YOGA because this program or style of stretching can and will help all golfers. But for those that will never give a full-blown yoga class a try, follow the stretches below to enhance your range of motion. As always, choose to
like us on Facebook and watch my team demonstrate the stretches.

Standing Side Bend with Club for internal and external obliques

|
 |
Standing Single Leg Stork Rotation for internal and external hip mobility
|
|
Cross-leg Hamstring Stretch for back of legs and glutes

The above is a brief set that done daily to off-set last month's power stretches will improve the potential for delivering power without hurting oneself. And for all of you with new knees, hips, or shoulders, please consult your trained therapist before attempting these stretches. My intent is to help not hurt and I am a big believer in the power of YOGA!!
Next month we go back to the pressure mat with our first swing drill for the season.
