Buried in the Lip of the Bunker
(sure beats being buried in the snow!)
Our Classic Swing Facebook friends have spoken! Having our newest staff member, Ms. Stef, demonstrate the tips on video seems to be a hit, and we could not agree more!
Stef recently graduated from the University of Mt. Olive in North Carolina where she majored in sports management and participated all 4 years on the women's golf team. Here at Classic Swing Golf School she is active in the adult schools, assists in the membership program, and directs our year round junior golf program. We are blessed to have her on our team!
Now for the buried lie in the lip of the bunker. Though not a fun or easy shot, you can find your way out through proper set-up and understanding of technique. The set-up and swing keys are as follows:
Set Up:
- Move the ball position back in your stance (big toe of back foot).
- Place your weight distribution well forward (90/10 lead side of body).
- Your head, hands and the handle are placed well in front of the ball.
- Use a sand wedge and grip mid way down the handle.
Swing:
You are going to DIG 1 inch behind the ball with the leading edge of the club head.
- The backswing is very upright.
- The downswing is very steep.
- No follow through. Put all force and speed of leading edge of the sand wedge no more than 1 inch behind the ball. DIG DEEP!
- Focus your eyes on your entry point and not the ball.
- Tighten the grip pressure and be strong as you enter the sand.
- Keep your weight forward!
