The Putt Chip
We are beginning an exciting new feature this month with the newsletter teaching tip. We will now be posting a video to coincide with the monthly newsletter teaching tip on the Classic Swing Golf School Facebook page. If you are on Facebook and have not liked the Classic Swing Golf School page, be sure to do that immediately so that you can view these valuable videos.

From set up to execution, ball position to club selection, you will receive the written tip with pictures by email along with a video clip available to our Facebook followers. The 2015 tips will consist primarily of short game shots so please send us a short game shot that has been plaguing your game and throughout the year we will try to help.

In Homer Kelly's book, The Golfing Machine, the putt chip shortgame shot is referred to as "The Pick." Picture #1 shows a view of the grip. The club shaft is set vertical with the heel of the club off of the ground. Both elbows are soft while using your putting style. You can use low left hand, claw, or standard overlap for your preferred grip.

Picture #2 shows a set up visual. Notice that the ball position is just in back of center, the weight distribution is just forward of center, and the handle and shaft are leaning slightly forward as you address the ball.
If you yip when you chip, then please try this month and next month's tips. For this month, the mechanics are simple. Think of the shoulders making a seesaw motion, rocking and tilting to move the club back and through - your putting stroke. No weight shift is needed, just like putting, and a still head is crucial as well. A slight pinch of the turf by the club head, and the ball is airborne. This is a low runner that is executed primarily with the 8 iron thru pitching wedge based on pin location. The feel is simply a putting stroke with a descending blow!
Next month, the hybrid bump and run.
