In this fast pace world that we live, so many people are caught up in material things and how they look. Health clubs and gyms across the globe are extremely busy, and they should be. We must take care of the physical condition of our bodies. Eating properly, good sleeping habits, and an exercise protocol for strength and flexibility are all ingredients to getting the body to look better on the outside. It is also a fact that the better you look on the outside, the better you feel on the inside, and therefore, taking care of yourself is a sure way to increase your level of confidence.
The focus of this year's newsletter tips has been encouraging a process of thinking better. You can be the most physically fit and still not be able to break 100. You can be gifted with a beautiful full swing and still not be able to get the ball into the hole. There is no way you could look across the driving ranges in America and come to a conclusion on what an individual shoots by how they hit the ball on the range. Playing golf and hitting a ball are two entirely different things. I spend 75% of my work week teaching people how to hit a ball; that is how I make my living and this is done on the range. Fortunately my work schedule allows me to also help my diverse range of students on the golf course as well. This is quite educational.
Scoring Schools and playing lessons are vital for our teachers to see our students outside the driving range environment. "Practice like you play so you play like you practice," is a common theme shared with my students. Training the mind is exactly like training the body. If an individual worked out five days a week for five months, he or she should expect to see results. If that same individual then took off a month from the gym, I will guarantee the body would soften up and you would notice a difference. The same dynamics apply to training the mind. Exercises should be done daily for conditioning of the mind, and do not plan on taking off for a month. Reading, meditating, listening to audio cds, etc, you all know what I am talking about.
Mental conditioning demands exercises exactly like physical conditioning. If you want your stomach muscles to get stronger, you will have to do crunches and sit ups. If you want your heart stronger then walking, riding the stationary bike, and jogging are means to strengthening the heart. If you want a better golf swing then you work on proper swing mechanics with a trained teaching professional. If you want a better short game than you spend 75% of your practice time with your wedges and putter. In order to accomplish your 2009 golf goals of lower scores you will have to work on concentration, focus, and thinking better thoughts. Find a way to spend some time by yourself every day to train your mind. This is a very important ingredient to successful people, they think differently.
