Greetings!

It's that time of year again when we, at BCSLS, like to
connect once more with our members and share some good thoughts, but more importantly extend our very Best Wishes for the Holiday Season!

"2013 promises to be an exciting year for BCSLS", stated Erica Meredith incoming BCSLS President, "we will be announcing some new programs and initiatives in the New Year and our partnership with CSMLS at LABCON 2013 in Victoria will provide a marquee event for all Med Lab Professionals."

2013-2014 Membership Fees Reduced Significantly

What better Christmas present this year than to let you know that the BCSLS membership fees for 2013-2014 have been reduced significantly for both MLTs and MLAs.

We were able to take advantage of the elimination of the HST and pass this saving on to our members. We also topped up the reduction a little more to make it really worthwhile. The new fees for the membership year starting May 1, 2013 are as follows:

Medical Laboratory Technologists - $139.00 including tax, down from $151.20

Medical Laboratory Assistant - $85.00 including tax, down from $92.40

Students - $75.00 including tax, down from $85.80

Affiliates - $80.00 including tax, down from $86.80 [retired MLTs]

The new membership fees can be paid at the same time that you renew your CSMLS membership for 2013 or you can simply submit them directly to the BCSLS through our website at www.bcsls.net

Refer-a-Friend Program
To encourage even greater membership growth the BCSLS is launching a Refer a Friend program for 2013.

New Back to Basics Program To Be Launched in January

The BCSLS has recently completed the complete revision of its very successful training program called Back to Basics [BtB].

Back to Basics was originally produced in the late 1990's and consisted of 12 DVDs -Chemistry and Hematology.Over the last decade the program was taken by hundreds of Canadian and Internationally Trained MLTs.

BtB was being utilized by domestic MLTs who had been out of the workforce for some time, and who required some form of refresher course to get back to work.

Over the last 6 months the BCSLS has completely revised the BtB program and is preparing for the  launch in early January 2013. To read full article...

BCSLS Joins Forces with CSMLS at LABCON 2013 in Victoria.

The BCSLS and CSMLS have joined forces in offering LABCON2013 to laboratory professionals in Victoria from May 10-13, 2013. The BCSLS will not be holding its Annual BCSLS Congress in 2013 and instead will be working with CSMLS to make the Victoria event a huge success.

According to Malcolm Ashford, BCSLS Executive Director, "the last time we held LABCON in BC in Kelowna in 2008 it was one of the most successful National Conferences ever. We anticipate Victoria being just as successful."

This year the theme is "Different"

What if a conference was more than a conference? More than a group of colleagues sitting row upon row, pens ready, waiting to hear an "expert" speak. What if we could do more to collaborate, to build upon each other's experiences, and to harness the collective wisdom in the room? It's time to see things differently.

This is your chance to meet other professionals from across Canada that deal with the same issues and concerns as you. LABCON2013 is your opportunity to interact, collaborate and network directly with lab professionals.

Happy Holidays!

The BCSLS would like to take this opportunity to wish all our members a very Happy Holiday Season and we hope for nothing less than a happy, prosperous and successful 2013.
