Time is truly flying by these days. Seems like it was just yesterday that I was sending out invites to celebrate the release of my third novel The Red Bear Society. Here it is nine months later and I am just now reconnecting.
First and foremost let me apologize for staying gone for so long. The love and support that you all have shown me through the year is so amazing. Even when I'm not promoting my books I still get a email here, and a note there, from readers who have been turned on to my work by one of you. So for that I am thankful.
This issue is a recap of some events, blogs, and books I have read since my last newsletter. I wish you and yours the happiest of thanksgivings and many blessings for the holiday season. Be on the look-out for your chance to win a brand new Kindle Fire HD for Christmas. Much Love, |
The Book Release Party
|
On Tuesday, February 7th, in coordination with the National Black AIDS Awareness Day, I hosted the official book release party for The Red Bear Society. It was an exciting and huge success. About 50 friends and family came out to the Hangar in beautiful downtown St. Petersburg, Florida to share in the festivities. OOSA Book club was gracious enough to host those who joined on-line via Twitter and Facebook. The evening was filled with poetry, give-away's, readings, and great food. Angela Howard, of Tampa, won the top prize...a Kindle Fire, but many others enjoyed winning books by various authors, and poetry CD's by C.c Clark. It was definitely a party with a purpose as we had free AIDS testing provide by Alma Kicklighter of GHETTREAL Community Services.

Musings of a Rising Author - Blogspot
|
One of my goals for 2012 was to blog more, and I must say I kept to it. I tried to do at least one a month. See what has been on my mind and let me know what you think...agree, disagree, or a totally different view.

Making an Impact Through the Written Word
| I believe every author lives for the moment when reader reaches out to say their book has made a difference in their life. Below is an excerpt from a message I recently received from a young lady on Facebook, regarding my novel He Loves Me He Loves Me Not!.
-Ms. Tracy,
About 3 years ago I was at a book festival with my Delta Academy program & I purchased your book. It was a while before I actually picked it up & began reading it but when I did I couldn't put it down. I was in the 7th grade, now I'm a sophomore and I've read your book at least 5 times since that day & I'm reading it again right now.
I'm not really sure how to say this but I just want to thank you because your book definitely changed my life. Before I read your book I was in a "relationship" with someone who seemed to be my real life Justice. It took me 4 times reading your book and 3 years to realize that I had to let my "Justice" go. When I did, it was the most painful thing I've done so far in life. But I'm much more happier .And I have you & your book to thank for that. Truthfully it does still hurt but I realized I had to do what was best for me. Plus I still have the rest of high school & college to go through. I'm pretty sure in a couple of years this will be nothing, but right now I'm still dealing with the aftermath. I just wanted to thank you Ms. Darity so very much.

Tampa Bay Area Book Clubs ROCK!
|
I didn't venture out much this year attending festivals and other events, but local book clubs filled the gap and made me feel like a rock star. A huge shout-out and tons of love to Bookoligist Book Club (Tampa), Drama Queen Booknista's (Tampa), and D.I.V.A.'s of St. Petersburg (pictured).
Love Ya Ladies YOU ROCK!

I hope you enjoyed this latest edition. Remember to be on the look-out for your chance to win a Kindle Fire HD. I will do my best not to let so much time pass between communications. Have a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving. Don't eat too much and I'll chat with you soon.
Happy Reading,
