Good day to All!

This past January, January 10th to be exact, I floated the idea of placing a plaque in the Dine-ah with names of individuals who had passed on, who had been patrons and really enjoyed their visits to the Dine-ah. I thought it would be a great way to keep these individuals memories alive within our Dine-ah family. I also felt it would be a great tribute to the many who have enjoyed the Dine-ah so much and a reminder to their family and friends that their life lives on through others.

I did not want to go out and buy a factory produced plaque, but rather, I wanted it handmade, as is all the decor in the Dine-ah. After a lot of thought, I settled on a piece of birch plywood and enlisted the help of a Mr. Bruce Boynton. One day I was talking to Bruce about the project and he offered to make the plaque for no charge, which I didn't understand, but he quickly informed me he wanted to do this for all the help, I have provided to others over the years.

Bruce and I go way back, I have known his family through church for over forty years. Most recently, we reconnected when Bruce worked for the Capital Area Technical Center in Augusta prior to his serious illness and years of getting back on his feet. One thing I remember about Bruce was that he was taking a group of kids half way across the country for a Skills USA competition and asked if there was any way, that I could help. I vaguely remember giving Bruce a check for gas and evidently, he never forgot about it.

It has been a long year for both Bruce and I, with Bruce dealing with his illness and recovery, while I was dealing with the building of the China Dine-ah Too. I am happy to say that Bruce seems to be doing much better and that the China Dine-ah Too project has been completed and was opened and has been closed for it's first season. I felt I needed to explain why it took ten months to get this rather small project from inception to completion.

I could not be happier with the Wall of Remembrance plaque - it is unique, one of a kind, it is not perfect but it is special and represents those patrons who have gone before us, who so much enjoyed their visits, not only for the food but also for the friendliness of our staff. Thank you Bruce and thank you to all of the families who have allowed us the opportunity to remember their loved ones in a manner, that is dignified and respectful. This tribute will live on for as long as I own the Dine-ah, and hopefully well beyond.

                                                            door to our function room

Currently, we have several family members listed and if you are so inclined, we would love to honor your special loved one by placing their name on the plaque,
as a way of remembering those who enjoyed their visits to the Dine-ah. You can simply write a note under "comments" as you respond to the Trivia Question telling us how you would like their name listed. If you would prefer, you can tell one of our servers or Sherri. I would ask that you write it out, so that we get the name listed, exactly the way you want it shown. We probably will be developing a small form.

I only wish my parents had been alive when we opened the Dine-ah, so that I could prominently display their names. Oh well.

Hope you all have a wonderful week and enjoy this summer-like weather.

Make it a great day!

Norm
