Good day to All! This weather has been a little more enjoyable than last week, unless of course, you were at the beach. 60's and 70's...just right. It was so hot last weekend that many of you did not feel like eating, and the ones that were close by, I think you came in knowing it was 68 degrees inside while it was in the 90's outside. It felt so good until I walked into the kitchen and was told by one of the cooks that it was over 100 degrees in the kitchen. I asked him to get rid of his thermometer because it was only going to discourage the staff! In reality, we have a bunch of troopers in the kitchen and thankfully , we only experience a half a dozen days a year where the temps reach into the 90's. We've already had three days this year, go figure, and it's only the first of June! We had a visitor a couple weeks ago and who can guess where they are from!? If you said "LL Bean" you are right! I promised you some updated photographs of the Dine-ah Too this week, but I was unable to get any good shots that resembled anything being completed. The main dining room has turned into a woodworking shop to facilitate the construction of the counter tops for our beverage service and also the counter top where you will order and pick up your meals. Trust me, we have made progress and next week (I sound like a broken record now) "God willing and the creek don't rise," I will have some nice photos of the inside pretty much completed without all the construction debris and equipment. I do have a few pictures below of our drainage system and retention pond under construction. This system will contain all of the water leaving the property once it has been slowed, filtered and sent on it's way towards China Lake. This has been engineered and installed to specifications at the cost of about $15,000. If we are going to do it, we are going to do it right. This is the last of the site improvements prior to the installation of loam and seed on all non-parking areas. The parking areas still need to receive 2" of asphalt regrind and those areas will be completed. It is crunch time with approximately 14 working days 'til we open. Will we make June 24th? It remains to be seen, but we will give it our absolute best effort. If not the 24th, we will be serving fried chicken tenderloins and seafood on the 28th, or my name ain't Norm.  Recent sunset I captured after a long day It's been a hectic several months and these next two weeks are going to be the craziest for me. I think you will all be pleasantly surprised when you see the finished product out on Route #3. Trust me, it will be hard to drive by without noticing it! I would call this "rural renewal" at it's best, kind of a play off of "urban renewal." We have literally taken a very tired building that had little or no future and hopefully will turn it into an attractive,thriving establishment that will benefit all in the area.
