Good day to All!
Would you consider yourself a friend of the Dine-ah? I'm sure your first thought is "what does it take to be considered a friend?" For me it is pretty simple, it is either one that comes to the Dine-ah and enjoys the atmosphere, service and food on a somewhat regular basis or it could be someone who has been to the Dine-ah only once but who regularly stays in touch by reading our weekly newsletter. Where do you fall? I know many of you have traveled great distances to enjoy what we have to offer and we certainly appreciate you making the trip. If you haven't been back in awhile, we would love to have you join us again. But either way, we appreciate you staying in touch by reading the newsletter and dropping me little notes from time to time. Cheers!
I'd like to share with you a few of our friends who just happen to be locals and have supported the Dine-ah over the past five years. Two of those friends, Bob OConnor and Linda Silvia, will be moving to Belfast and decided to invite their neighbors to Trivia Night to defend their title and as a way for the neighbors to get together. Following is the letter sent out by Linda to their neighbors and a follow up letter by Bob:
The "Killdeer Pointers" Took 1st Place!! Next Wednesday, May 1st, we need your help to defend our Title!
Hi Neighbors,
What a hoot! We are on a roll. Our team of neighbors (The Killdeer Pointers) won 2nd place in February, and tonight we took 1st place at China Dine-ah Trivia. We are so glad Hallee joined us tonight, she brought the much needed younger generation trivia answers, and she was a great team captain, too. Our team was tied until they compared the "tie breaker" question answers.......how many acres is China Lake? Our answer, 3,966; the closest answer to the actual 3,845. The prize was a $25.00 gift certificate and we'd love you to come next Wednesday and help us spend it!
In other news, Bob and Linda announced they are moving to Belfast Cohousing, and Ecovillage <www.mainecohousing.org> . And they are in the process of getting the property on China Lake ready for sale. They do plan to return for a week each summer, stay in a lake rental, and come visit.
Let us know if you plan to be at Trivia next week, so we can save a seat for you!
Bein' Neighborly,
Linda
Hi Sue and Norm,
The Killdeer Pointers Came back to "defend their first place title" from last week and spend their prize money...
Last week the Breton's daughter, Hallee, Erskine HS Senior, helped push the team over the top to win.
This week we had fun and came close but did not win.
John, moved back to S China from Boston, and is the Student Activities Coordinator for Thomas College in Waterville.
In the attached picture L to R, Claire Breton, Bob OConnor (dad), John OConnor (son and "team captain'), Dennis Breton.
Winning team members not shown: Hallee Breton and Linda Silvia (Linda and Bob)
The Killdeer Pointers are the group of 7 year round homes/families living on Killdeer Point Road and Great Oak lane off Killdeer.
We get together on occasion for potluck gatherings that are bigger in the summah when our seasonal visitahs join us.
Feel free to enhance or change the story as you see fit.
-Bob
Note: letters were presented as written by Linda and Bob - Thanks guys! You will be missed, but you assured us, you would be back and I will also be down to see you and check out your eco-friendly housing.

Pictured below is a group called "The Liar's Club". This men's group meets the third Thursday of every month here at the Dine-ah and started coming in when some of the men were still working. Most, if not all, are now retired, but they still come in bright and early and many are in the parking lot, before the door is opened at 7 am.
On this particular day, ten members of the group showed up for their early morning coffee and breakfast. Starting on the left (the guy in the black ball cap) and going clockwise in order with no particular age or rank are
Ralph Saban, Sheldon Bumps, Dean Willoughby, George Studley, Jimmy Taber, Jeff Stuart, Joe Pilsbury, Barry Thomas, Eddie Strout and Jack Crommett. They call themselves "The Liar's Club" and one can only imagine why! We certainly appreciate their support and according to the early morning staff, these guys certainly liven up the morning.
If any of you recognize one or more of these gentlemen, feel free to tell them you saw their picture in the Dine-ah newsletter, but please don't call the authorities, because rumor has it, there are a couple of outstanding warrants! Now that I think about it, these may not even be their real names...thanks guys!
"The Liar's Club"
Just a reminder, we are open Mother's Day from 7 am to 6 pm with seating right up 'til closing time. We will be offering our full menu, as well as several Mother's Day specials, which will be included in next week's newsletter. Please join us to show your appreciation to the lady in your life.
Thank you for your continued and valued support.
Normp.s. Thanks to all of you, who sent heartfelt messages in response to the past newsletters, outlining how the Dine-ah got started. It was no simple feat and it was nice, that so many of you recognized the fact.
