Good day to All!
February 22, 2013 - I just arrived at Leslie and Abhi's home in Moira,Goa,India. It only took 30 hours to get here from the time I left Augusta. Their new place is beautiful and it is so nice to see them! It is 5 am Friday here and a humid 70 degrees outside. Decaf coffee and a nap is in order. I plan on settling in with a beach day planned for tomorrow.
Below were my traveling buddies from New York to Qatar...14 hours. Abdulrahman and Talal , two young boys
from Qatar and when asked what they did in America they told me they went to Toys R Us and Disney in that order- too cute!

February 24 - It is Sunday morning here and another gorgeous day. It's going to be in the 90's, that is my guess, for no one ever talks about it. I'm headed to the beach today with Leslie. We are headed to the Arabian Sea and do not know the town yet. Anita, their maid and Dilip, her husband, are so nice and are constantly doing things for us. Here comes the coffee all prepared with creamer and sugar. Boy, I could get used to this but I won't....LOL I have already attended two dinner parties on my first two nights here. My daughter and her husband have some really nice friends. Oh, you should smell the coffee. So sweet!

I just moved out onto the front porch and the sounds are so different. The vendors all have bikes with horns, kid's bike horns, like the rubber bladder ones you squeeze. The horns start blaring at 5:30 am and then the roosters and birds chime in. An occasional scooter or small motor cycle goes by. Birds are heard but not always seen. Not sure if I ever mentioned it before, but these homes are old and always in need of repair. A fresh coat of paint looks like a million dollars, kind of like what happens when you paint a building in a downtown area back home. The food is crazy hot and spicy and when the natives say it is hot, hold on! Jon James would be in heaven, but for me, I need my drink. Surprisingly, I have not suffered any heartburn as of yet, and we do eat dinner late with 9 pm considered ordinary, as everyone waits for the heat of the day to pass.

Nights are much cooler and sleeping has been very comfortable. Having a great time and missing you all. Thanks for the notes, they are greatly appreciated. I hear the Dine-ah has been steady-busy, again thanks to all. Abhi's Dad, Sheetal, is coming Thursday so that will be nice. I am looking forward to shopping, that is always a very different experience and makes for some great photo ops. Sorry I did not get pictures of the dinner parties, I forgot my camera both times but that will not happen again. Driving here is a hoot and I will take a video of that before the week's end. Enjoy the snow and I will bring back the sunshine.

February 25 - Had a great day at the ocean with Leslie yesterday. I have been to that same beach area in past years and the guy serving recognized me. Not sure why but it could of been the ridiculous tip I left last time I was here. Some items are so inexpensive, it is crazy and others are what we would expect to pay. Just as an example, we used a canopy with beach chairs all day, drank bottled water, ate large shrimp, calamari, French fries (yes, French fries!) all for 960 rupees (54 rupees/dollar)
so round it to $20. You get the picture, what a bargain!
Beach canopy and chairs we rented... and the bathrooms on the beach
Beach rental cottage and beach in Goa at sunset- breathtaking!
On the other hand, gasoline is 64 rupees/liter or about $4.50/gal. Their rent is 19000 rupees or $350/month for a nice house with a yard and a cottage for their hired help. The going rate for a house maid, and Anita comes with a husband, Dilip, who helps around the house, all for 10000 rupees/ month or about $185. Leslie and Abhi also pay for Dilip and Anita's food, lodging and provide a scooter so Dilip can run errands for them as well as for themselves. They do all the cleaning, cooking and handy work around the house. What a deal!! The equalizer is that most people earn their income in rupees at the going rates here which are also low. When I am here, my money seems to go so far that it blows me away. Dinner the other night for eight was $60 with many drinks..........headed to the ocean again today....see you all later...enjoy the snow..I miss it....I really do....miss all of you as well...
Prawns, French fries and salad for dinner! Leslie and her puppy
Again, thank you to my staff at the Dine-ah for carrying the torch while I am gone. I appreciate each and every one of you. Good Day to all! More to come from India next week!
