Remember, the correct answer is always in bold, in the current week's
A View from the Corner Booth section. In the past, I had written to many of you offering a chance to resubmit your answer, so you can be entered into the drawing. Last week, there were so many incorrect answers, I decided to let it go and give you the head's up this week, via my newsletter.
We have a new business in town, China, Maine that is.
G.O. Tubing opened last week with a "soft opening" and perfect conditions. You know how some businesses start up and immediately you wonder if they will make it? Well, this start up is 100% the opposite. Owned and operated by Kevin Gower, Danny Ouellette and Jen Haskell, I have no doubt this will be a huge seasonal success. These folks are local, well respected small business owners, who know what it takes to be successful. They had an idea and a piece of land that was well suited for this business venture. With a "pay as you go" attitude, thus avoiding huge debt, G.O. Tubing has come to life over the last couple of years. Kevin comes into the Dine-ah regularly and with caution, approached me with his business plan and I was sworn to secrecy. Kevin being the business man that he is, did not want someone else to take the idea and open something locally with the same concept before he, Mike and Jen got theirs up and running.

He was just starting the planning process and had to deal with wetlands as well as state and local codes. First, an addition was installed onto Kevin's shop, to be used as a warming area then the clearing of the land began. The hill started to take shape with the help of a bulldozer and excavator. They purchased a used lift to pull the tubes and people up the hill, lighting was installed, and about two weeks ago, I noticed a large piece of snow grooming equipment in the front yard. Driving by last week, I realized they were up and running with several cars in the parking lot. Boy, does it look nice! Let's pray for snow.
This past weekend, G.O. Tubing was very busy and as another local business in the area, the China Dine-ah extends a warm welcome to them. I have always wished that there was more commerce in the China area and they are a great addition. We had many folks come into the Dine-ah who were waiting for a time slot to get onto the hill. We also had a couple of small groups of adults who came in to enjoy a sit down meal while their children were tubing.
While they offer a lunch wagon on site, operated by Mike Marois, we have sponsored ten tubes in an effort to drive business towards the Dine-ah for those looking for a full service sit down meal with an expanded menu.
Good luck guys, I hope it is a great success and don't forget to send those hungry snow tubers our way!
