During this upcoming holiday season, I would like to think that safety would be at the forefront of everybody's mind. Here is a list of some items that should be of our concern. It is not inclusive by any means.
a. driving while celebrating (designated drivers)
b. proper maintenance and use of all heating elements - wood, oil, propane and natural gas (house fires!)
c. proper lifting techniques (firewood and snow removal)
d. maintaining slippery surfaces (ie- walkways and driveways)
e. proper care of real Christmas trees - re-cut tree butt so tree will absorb water (remove from house when needles show excessive loss)
f. inspect all Christmas lights before installation (dispose of lights not working and/or ones with bare wires)
g. great time of year to change batteries in smoke detectors
h. Be careful when using lit candles (ie - children, pets, near flammable materials)
These are to name just a few, but I think you get the point. Just in the last week, I have picked up the newspaper and have read about several dwelling fires directly related to heating elements. It happens every year and results in loss of life and property. Don't let this happen to one of us! Please err on the side of caution.
Speaking of safety, we have worked at the Dine-ah over 208,000 man hours since we opened in 2007 without a lost time injury. In simple terms, a lost time injury is defined as an injury, where you lose a full day from work or more.
At G & E Roofing, we currently have a streak going of 1,288 days, dating back to July 8, 2008, accounting for 647,571 hours without a lost time injury. I could not be more proud of our staff at both companies, for taking workplace safety seriously. I have spent the better part of my working career dedicated to providing safe work environments, so that each and every one of my employees return home safely to their loved ones, each and every night.
I would like to extend my concern to each and every one of you. It is a gift that we can give one another that keeps on giving. If you see an unsafe condition during this holiday season or anytime for that matter, please speak up and bring it to someone's attention. I understand that most of you are not safety experts, however, if you use this one simple rule, it's hard to go wrong. "If it doesn't look safe, it probably isn't". The best safety programs in the world are ones where we watch for one another, and as a team, we identify hazards that could cause a life changing event.
There is a lot going on at the Dine-ah this time of year. As a note, we are closed on Thanksgiving and will re-open Friday November 23rd for all of you avid shoppers! Don't forget,
China Dine-ah gift cards are a "one size fits all"gift. Wednesday Night Trivia will start up again on the first Wednesday after Thanksgiving (November 28th). Jon James of 92 Moose will again be this years host and he is raring and ready to go! Santa will be coming and we will be sure to give you plenty of notice on when that will be.
Don't forget to make your reservations for our back function room during non peak hours for your holiday celebrations. We can accommodate up to 35 and call Sherri at 207-445-5700 to discuss any needs you may have. The room is free of charge and all we ask is that you eat and enjoy your company.
As always, I enjoy hearing from you.
Wishing you all the best!
