This has been a difficult week to say the least. This past week,I attended the funeral of Lolly Wadleigh, wife to my first cousin, Ted of Belgrade. Lolly was a special person, always writing to me whenever she saw something in the newspaper, that I had done or if it related to one of my companies. It was a beautiful service and may Lolly rest in peace. My heart goes out to Ted and his children for their loss.
I also received word from one of our avid readers and fans, Lin from Pennsylvania, that her husband Mike passed away after a long illness. Over the past year, I have had the opportunity to write to both Lin and Mike, as they have written back to me off the newsletter. I have followed their journey for the past year of Mike being in and out of hospitals and the courageous fight that he fought. Not once, did I hear a complaint or a negative word about Mike's illness from either of them. As a friend, I sent a plant on behalf of all at the Dine-ah. I then wrote to Lin and said " As you care for this plant, think of the grace, beauty and love that you both shared with me over the years."
If this wasn't enough, I also got word that my good friend Hack Dearnley of Monmouth lost his wife Iva. She had also been ill for some time. The service is going to be held this Saturday and my intent is to visit with Hack today at his office in Winthrop. I regret that I am unable to attend Iva's service, for I will be at another service in Brunswick at the same time.
I will be attending the funeral of the mother of one of our 15 year G & E Roofing employees and friend, Mark Wyman. Barbara Wyman passed away on October 16 and her service will be held this coming Saturday in Brunswick.
For all the families who have lost loved ones, you are in my thoughts and prayers.
On a brighter note, I went before the China Planning Board last night and received preliminary approval on my new project, the China Dine-ah Too. There still needs to be a public hearing held and a few loose ends buttoned up and we will have the green light to proceed. In the meantime, as many of you may know, we have jacked up the existing building over on Route #3 and poured a new concrete foundation under the entire structure. The exciting part for me about the foundation is that it will contain two root cellars. My intent is to be able to purchase locally grown vegetables at harvest time that can be stored and then sold at our flagship Dine-ah. Believe me, I will have the two locations supporting one another. In fact, the new bakery at China Dine-ah Too will provide all the baked goods for the original China Dine-ah.
Sherri will be returning from Fort Worth, Texas having seen her daughter inducted in to the Cowgirl Hall of Fame. She will be with us this weekend to greet and seat you with her friendly smile. Congrats to both mother and daughter!
Don't forget this is our Anniversary Week where we are offering 50% off all kids meals. We also have all kinds of giveaways and a special drawing for the week, which includes many prizes. Please come and celebrate with us!
