Typhoon Haiyan has affected 4.3 million people in 36 provinces of the Philippines. More than 340,000 people have been displaced. FFCC along with our event sponsors have agreed to send the food we are packaging this Sunday at Poway High School and next week with Santa Fe Christian School to the Philippines to help meet their critical need. We are trying to package enough food between the two events to fill a 40-foot shipping container- 300,000 meals. We are currently $5,500 (22,000 meals) short of our goal.
Here are some other ways you can help:
-Sawyer is the manufacturer of the water filter that we have been providing to those in Tanzania and Haiti who deal with contaminated water. The people of cities like Tacloban which were leveled by the storm will need water filtration as well. Sawyer, in cooperation with this effort, has discounted their filters to $45 each. It is our hope to send 1,000 filters for the families there who need safe drinking water.
-Hygiene and first aid items, as well as over-the-counter medication will also be collected to pack along with the food.
-In addition to the supplies, we are also sending a team to help provide on the ground support. A scouting team will leave next Thursday, Nov 21st to go and assess the situation and to put the plan in place to make sure our contributions reach those in most need. If possible, we will send a larger team in mid-December to continue to help. If you are interested in traveling with FFCC to the Philippines, please contact Tina Socha at tina.socha@ffccsd.org
