THE SOLANA BEACH COMMUNITY IS FIGHTING HUNGER!

FFCC is spending a good amount of time on the coast these days.  But we are not sunbathing, we are packing meals for families in need! St. James Catholic Church of Solana Beach hosted a community of volunteers who packaged 81,000 meals for local families and those in Tanzania.  Mike Kitwaka, our Tanzanian friend and guest, was full of praise for the impact that FFCC is making and the help we are providing for his people.  This next Sunday, we will be back in Solana Beach at Skyline Elementary School to package 89,000 meals.  It's going to be a great day!  There are a few spots left, join us! Go to www.ffccsd.org to register. We will also be collecting contributions for our Thanksgiving Basket Outreach. See the article below for the suggest list of donations and other details.

 On Friday evening, November 15, 2013, Friends and Family Community Connection (FFCC) would like to invite you to the Lexus Centre in Escondido to celebrate another successful year of the Ayiti (Haiti) Academy. We want to share with you the amazing work and success of the students that are currently in the program and present to you the new class of students that will begin in 2014. You made this happen! Without your financial support and investment in the lives of these students, there would be no story to tell.

The purpose and design of the program is to take graduated high school students and give them the opportunity to apply to the Academy for a 3 month program.  The 3 month program focuses on these 4 areas of Growth;

1) Character Development

2) Life Skills

3) Career Assessment

4) Giving Back/Community Outreach

Upon successful completion of this program, the student is matched with a sponsor allowing them to continue their education at a trade school or local university based on their career objectives.  Once the student graduates, the Academy staff sets up internships for the graduates that ultimately results into permanent employment.

There are currently 13 students enrolled in the Academy program with another 15 that need sponsorship for the class of 2014. Your attendance and sponsorship is greatly appreciated.  I hope you can join us on Friday evening to hear more about the program and the different ways you can be involved in the Academy. Please share this invitation with a friend. Your generous donation is tax-deductible.  Upon receipt of monies or donated goods we will send you a receipt for tax purposes.

Thanks for partnering with us!!

THANKSGIVING BASKET OUTREACH!

It is hard to believe that October is here!  The holidays will soon be upon us.  For years, our FFCC community has provided assistance to families who might otherwise find it difficult to afford Thanksgiving dinner.  The need this year will be no different. It is our hope that you will join us in providing Thanksgiving Baskets for families in need. These families are referred and/or recommended to FFCC through our community food distribution program and from schools and organizations throughout North County. The baskets will include all the ingredients needed to prepare their holiday meal as they like to enjoy it.  We will be accepting donations between now and November 12th, which allows time to deliver the baskets before Thanksgiving Day.

Donations can dropped off at the Poway Dream Dinners at 12218 Poway Road, #100, Poway 92064, or you can contact Kim Rizzo and Melanie Turner (therizzoo@gmail.com) to schedule a drop-off time.  In addition, if you would like to help with the basket preparation and delivery to the families, please contact Kim or Melanie.
