THANKSGIVING BASKET OUTREACH!

 

It is hard to believe that October is here!  The holidays will soon be upon us.  For years, our FFCC community has provided assistance to families who might otherwise find it difficult to afford Thanksgiving dinner.  The need this year will be no different. It is our hope that you will join us in providing Thanksgiving Baskets for families in need. These families are referred and/or recommended to FFCC through our community food distribution program and from schools and organizations throughout North County. The baskets will include all the ingredients needed to prepare their holiday meal as they like to enjoy it.  We will be accepting donations between now and November 12th, which allows time to deliver the baskets before Thanksgiving Day.

 

Donations can dropped off at the Poway Dream Dinners at 12218 Poway Road, #100, Poway 92064, or you can contact Kim Rizzo and Melanie Turner (therizzoo@gmail.com) to schedule a drop-off time.  In addition, if you would like to help with the basket preparation and delivery to the families, please contact Kim or Melanie.

 

List of suggested items (you can donate a single item or fill the whole Thanksgiving list):

 

Thanksgiving Items

  • Cranberry Sauce (canned)
  • Canned Corn
  • Stuffing
  • Corn Bread Mix
  • Canned Sweet Potatoes/Yams
  • Canned Green Beans
  • Gravy  (Canned, Jar or Mix)
  • Aluminum Foil
  • Small bottle of cooking oil and
  • $15-$25 Gift Certificates to Albertsons, Stater Bros, or Vons for turkey and/or fresh food items.

 

We also collect food pantry items year round:

  • Peanut Butter
  • Rice
  • Canned Beans 
  • Pasta
  • Pasta Sauce
  • Canned Chicken or Tuna
  • Macaroni and Cheese
  • Soups
  • Cereal

 

 

 

 

            

ST JAMES FOOD PACKAGING EVENT

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 13th

 

 

 

There is still time to register for our 54th Food Packaging Event sponsored by St. James Catholic Church in Solana Beach.  We will package 80,000 meals on Sunday, October 13th. The event will be held from 12 pm - 3 pm. Mike Kitwaka, our friend and Tanzanian Project Manager will be in town for the event and looks forward to sharing the impact this food is having in his country.  You can register to participate on our website (www.ffccsd.org). We will also be collecting donations for our Thanksgiving Baskets (see the list in the article above for suggested items) and reading glasses for our homeless community and our Haiti medical clinics. So bring your donations with you when you come. We look forward to seeing you there!

 
 SPECIAL EVENT REMINDER
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 12th, 6:30PM

 

FFCC will host a special evening to share about a remarkable new project -- the construction of another Community Children's Center. This one will be for the street children of Bariadi, Tanzania.  In partnership with the regional government and local Bariadi community, FFCC will help build this center which will provide food, safe drinking water, medical care, education, and job training for children who otherwise would have no opportunity for such basic things.  Mike Kitwaka, one of our Tanzanian partners, will be our special guest and speaker for the evening. Please contact Tina Socha (tina.socha@ffccsd.org) if you are interested in attending.  She will provide directions and let you know whether to bring an appetizer or dessert to share.

Also, Phil and Sheila are celebrating 30 years of marriage this week.  Happy Anniversary to them as well!
