ANOTHER 28,000 MEALS

FOR THOSE IN NEED!

This past weekend FFCC partnered with Teen Volunteers In Action, (SD2) to pack over 28,000 meals which will make an impact both locally and globally! The young men of this organization (12 - 18 years old) provided the resources, the leadership and the manpower to produce these valued meals. Great job TVIA!  Thank you for the service you provide to our neighborhoods and city.  It is our pleasure to serve with you!

An Update from Moore Oklahoma

Back on August 10th, FFCC hosted an event in downtown San Diego. Because of the location, many of our homeless community were able to participate. Together we packaged just under 100,000 meals. Of these, 20,000 meals were trucked and distributed to Moore, OK.

Dave Geary, the President of the Escondido Kiwanis, along with other club members raised $2,500 and FFCC donated $2,500 to pay for the bulk food ingredients that went into the 20,000 meals.  Dave drove the truck and trailer to Moore and delivered the meals and donated school supplies to the community of Moore. This community has been recovering from the tornado which struck back in May.

"School started 2 weeks ago and the teachers were grateful for all the school supplies and food that FFCC and Kiwanis donated.  The food was being distributed to the children at the school whose families were in greatest need.  Some of the meals were also given to the Salvation Army for distribution.

nullThe picture to the side shows a food packing volunteer signing a huge bow that accompanied the food.  The bow was given to the community of Moore that expressed in words our heartfelt compassion and sympathy for the tragic loss they are going through.  The food and supplies were such a blessing and gift from our community to theirs.  Great work FFCC volunteers and Escondido Kiwanis for the action taken.  Our homeless community was so thankful for the opportunity to participate in something so huge and life changing.

LOCAL COMMUNITY NEEDS

FOOD PANTRY:
The FFCC food pantry is getting low on non-perishable items.  We are always looking for more protein like peanut butter, canned tuna, canned chicken, or canned beans.  But, we accept all types of food like cereal, rice, pasta and canned soup.   We are constantly helping local families in need with food resources, and assist from 300 to 500 families every month of the year.  If you can help with a donation, or organize a food drive at a school, church or office please contact us for flyers or delivery information. Send an email to Becky at ffccsdlocal@gmail.com.

ALBERTSONS' FRESH RESCUE PROGRAM:
Another way you can help is become a FFCC volunteer for the Albertsons Fresh Rescue Program.  Each Monday and Friday morning, we pick up donations of fresh foods that we distribute to families in need.  It only takes about 1.5 hours of time from about 9am or 9:30am.  We meet in Rancho Penasquitos and then drive to various local sites to distribute.  Fresh Rescue is a great program that has helped us connect over 50,000 pounds of free food to families who really need it!  If you want to join us once a month or more, please contact Becky at ffccsdlocal@gmail.com for more information.

FFCC TRAVELS TO INDIA

This week, an FFCC team of two, will head to the country of India.  It will be our first trip to this country.  The purpose of the trip is to see how our FFCC community might come alongside the tea garden people who are members of the lowest cast of India's society.

In the District of Siliguri, there are over four thousand tea garden laborers.  The process of plucking tea leaves is a tedious task that requires long days in very poor conditions.  These people struggle to provide for their families and as a result are dealing with malnutrition and other poverty related issues.

Our team will meet with government and faith leaders from the community so as to work to understand the problems and how we might be able to help.  We wish them a safe and insightful journey.
