FIGHT AGAINST HUNGER MEALS ARRIVE IN OKLAHOMA!
The President of the Escondido Kiwanis Club, Dave Geary, and other Kiwanis members, along with FFCC volunteers, packed a U-Haul trailer with 20,000 meals for Moore, Oklahoma. FFCC and Escondido Kiwanis partnered together to purchase the bulk food ingredients that hundreds of volunteers packaged at FFCC's 52nd food packing event on Saturday. Dave and the team then took off from San Diego early Sunday morning and arrived safely in Oklahoma Monday.
"It took 24 hours to travel from San Diego to Moore, OK. We hit tremendous thunder storms all the way there but it was worth every mile. The food and school supplies were delivered to the Kiwanis Club in Oklahoma City. From there we drove out to Moore to see first-hand the devastation and the recovery work. The pictures don't come close to capturing the destruction. The people are so grateful for the food, the encouraging messages on the boxes, the school supplies and the big bow that expressed the love and concern from all the volunteers at Saturday's food packing event. Thank you FFCC and all the volunteers that teamed up with the Escondido Kiwanis club to make this happen. "
Another great effort and gift from our city to help those in need locally, nationally and internationally.
A letter from one of our faithful FFCC volunteers:
"After personally participating in multiple food packaging events and three humanitarian trips to Haiti over the last four years I can finally say my family is part of the FFCC community. This past Saturday, my mom and two sisters joined me at the San Diego Salvation Army food packaging event. At my invitation, they signed up for the first hour of the event but as there was still room for more volunteers, they eagerly stayed to help for the whole event. We packaged 87,000 meals! Some for Oklahoma, San Diego and Tanzania.
We were all impressed by each other's determination to finish strong. Regardless of our background, working beside each other and our new friends was rewarding as we were all there to achieve a common goal and serve those in need. I'm so proud! They are already planning to attend the next packaging event (without me, while I'm away at college) and want to invite friends and coworkers to join them. I am so grateful for FFCC because not only do they help people in need all over the world, but they do it while building strong and meaningful relationships."
Sincerely,
Caroline Williams

YOU CAN HELP!
Due to our FFCC donors and supporters, we were able to locate a portable crib and brand new clothing for the baby mentioned in a July newsletter. Baby Carmelo and his grandparents thank you all! Also, the single Dad from RB called FFCC " my angels" when supporters helped with volleyball camp for his daughter. We have the best network of community members that step forth to help others!
We've been able to help hundreds of local families in need this summer with thousands of pounds of free food. Thank you to the awesome Backyard Produce Project, the Church at Rancho Bernardo, and numerous home gardeners for their consistently wonderful donations of produce! Thank you also to Albertsons in Rancho Penasquitos for continuing to provide us Fresh Rescue twice weekly, and Trader Joes in Carmel Mountain Ranch for three years of donations for our monthly distribution sites. We also had a Rancho Bernardo Eagle Scout select FFCC to be the recipient of several food drives that he organized and implemented.
We are quickly becoming the best solution in this area for food resources for families that are struggling. We could never do this without our MANY volunteers that come forth every week to accomplish the sorting and delivering. If you would like to be a part of the leadership team for local families in need, please contact
Currently, most projects require weekday time for volunteering between the hours of 9am and 3pm.

NEWS FROM HAITI:
THE GIFT OF TRANSPORTATION!
Dear FFCC family,
On behalf of the children of Shepherd's House Ministries, the staff, my wife and I would like to thank you for your unwavering supports and for the gift of the 1997 E-3500 GMC Savana van. We are very excited and grateful for this gift.
By having this vehicle we will be able to save hundreds of dollars on rentals. It will also help us with transportation for the kids, missionaries and going grocery shopping.
As believers, we have a responsibility to help the children of God to believe in themselves and in their power to shape their future. May God raise up others like you who will catch the vision for a new Haiti. You Make A Difference!
In His Hands
Aaron & Nathalie Nelson
Founder/President of Shepherd's House Ministries

TOP OF HER CLASS!
Lorette Nicolas is a student of FFCC's Ayaiti Academy. She is attending nursing school at the Institute-University of Technology in Carrefour, Haiti. Lorette just finished her first year at the University and was recognized for finishing first in her class. Here is a brief section from the speech that she presented at a ceremony acknowledging her achievement.
"First and foremost I would like to thank God for never leaving me, secondly i would like to thanks the staff of FFCC for giving me a second chance to go back to school, a special thanks to Shannon Gunderson for supporting me, without it would not have been possible. Last and at least I would like to thanks my family for accepting my decision of going back to school, my director, the staff of INUTECH and my fellow classmates thank you for your support."
Lorette is one of fourteen students currently pursuing higher education as a result of this academy and sponsors from our community. We have another dozen students awaiting sponsorship who have qualified for our program. The next session will begin in June 2014.

TRAVELING WITH FFCC!
Have you ever wanted to see another part of the world, or experience a different culture while helping to make a difference at the same time? Perhaps you would enjoy traveling with FFCC! There are several upcoming opportunities that you might be interested in investigating.
There is still time to join our November trip to Haiti. It will be a medically focused trip but all are welcome. We have a team meeting on Monday, August 26th at 6:30 pm.
We will be in Tanzania, Africa in January of 2014. There will be an informational meeting for this trip on Tuesday, August 27th at 6:30 pm.
Then back to Haiti in the spring, 2014. We will have two trips back to back in April. The first will coincide with the Poway Unified School District's spring break (April 4 - 12) and will be a trip geared toward high school and college age students but anyone over 15 years of age is welcome. The next week (April 11 -19) will be another medical trip. We would love our medical community to consider traveling with us. Due to the timing of Easter and the popularity of traveling during the spring season, plane flights will be expensive and flights will fill quickly. We are hoping to get ahead of that by buying tickets early. So if you are interested in either of these April trips, we encourage you to come to an informational meeting on Thursday, September 5th. The Spring Break team (April 4 - 12) will meet at 5:30 pm. The medical team (April 11 - 19) will meet at 7 pm.
For details on meeting location and any other questions relating to these trips, contact Tina Socha at tina.socha@san.rr.com.
