YOU CAN HELP!

This week we want to share a message of gratitude for YOU our wonderful FFCC supporters that helped make Prom a reality for four high school students!

From a grateful single Mom, "Thank you and everyone who helped make Prom a beautiful night for my twins.  We couldn't have done it without you. God bless all of you!"

"Prom was such an amazing experience.  Thank you for everything you have done for my family. You made our senior year!"  Written by a student who is giving back by volunteering for our projects.

FFCC summer volunteers and projects to help our local community in need are a great match!  We are looking for more help with the following:

Each Friday around 9am to 10:45am, we partner with Albertsons Fresh Rescue Program. FFCC picks up donated food to give to families who need it.  We're looking for drivers and other family members to join us.  You just need to be available once or twice a month and willing to help us lift boxes, sort, and record the donations.

Also on Fridays, we're hosting some "Free Farmer's Markets" where we take this food and add produce from the Backyard Produce Project partners.  Volunteers needed to help once or twice monthly from about 9:45am to about 11am.

Speaking of produce, do you love to work outdoors in the fresh air?  We could use some more help with picking backyard trees in local neighborhoods.  Times and dates vary, but picking support is often needed on Thursdays.

We're also looking to help some Moms in need with diapers in size newborn or 1, as well as size 5 and 6. You can ease a burden this summer!  Many thanks for your continued support! Please arrange with Becky ( [email protected] )if you can donate.

If you can assist with any of these tasks, please contact Becky immediately at [email protected].

LET'S HELP MOORE, OKLAHOMA!

Mark your calendars!  On August 10th, FFCC will host its 52nd food packaging event at the Downtown San Diego Salvation Army.  FFCC will be partnered with the Escondido Kiwanis Club packaging food for Oklahoma tornado survivors and for the 'most vulnerable' children of Tanzania, Africa.   The food for Oklahoma that we package will be trucked to Oklahoma to benefit those in the city of Moore who were impacted by the tornado that struck there this past May.  Registration will open soon.  We will post the link on our website and we will make an announcement in our upcomingnewsletter.  Financial donations are needed!  If you are interested in contributing to the event, mark your donation 'Moore, OK'.  You can donate on our website (www.ffccsd.org) or send a check to FFCC (12463 Rancho Bernardo Rd, PMB #158, San Diego 92128).  All donations are tax deductible.

FFCC is dreaming of the day we can host a COUNTY-WIDE food packaging event large enough to provide meals for ALL those that we assist.  If you have ideas or contacts to help make this dream a reality, contact Phil Harris at [email protected].

JEAN MENTANE SCHEDULED FOR SURGERY!

THANK YOU FFCC COMMUNITY! WE DID IT!

On behalf of Jean Mentane and her family, thank you for providing the funds for the life-saving surgery to remove the goiter that is constricting her airway. The plans are in motion to get her ready for surgery.  We will give you an update on how she is doing once the goiter is removed.  Because of your continued generosity, another life is transformed!

TANZANI TEAM #16 ON THEIR WAY!

Apparently, Tanzania is the place to be this summer.  At least that's what President Obama and FFCC believe.  This past Monday, our team of 19 boarded the plane for the two day journey to East Africa.  Our team will focus on several projects.  The Prime Minister of Tanzania and FFCC will be the guests of honor at a celebration for the completion of the water filter installation project at Nkungi Village. FFCC will begin a new water filterproject in the town of Kiomboi.  They hope to begin training the new water technicians from Kiomboi who will oversee the installation of 1,000 filters to those families in most critical need.  FFCC is also working out details to begin construction of our second children's community center in the city of Bariadi, a city where many children live on the streets because they've lost their parents to poverty-related diseases and AIDS.  The President and First Lady are scheduled to be in Tanzania at the same time as our team.  We invited them to join us.  We will see if they are able to come!

If you are interested in receiving the daily updates from the team, contact Steve Socha at [email protected] and he will add you to the email distribution list.

CONGRATULATIONS CLASS OF 2013!

Working with FFCC to establish the KIN Club on the Del Norte campus was one of the highlights of my high school career. It was an amazing journey and I'm so grateful for the experience. I can truly say that I learned so much about myself and others, and I was so blessed to receive such great support from Phil, Tina and from the FFCC family, as there were so many people in the community that helped our club reach hefty goals. Not only did KIN become the largest club on the DNHS campus, engaging hundreds of students in service projects, we were  also able to help thousands through our work through FFCC projects and other campaigns such as our annual Teens For Jeans drive. It's been an honor to host two food packaging events on our campus resulting in over 40,000 meals for kids in need, while also providing numerous volunteers, desserts and socks to our local homeless through the monthly Salvation Army servings downtown.  I've also been so lucky to work with so many other incredible FAH Club Leaders from the other high schools, as well as all the awesome FFCC student volunteers that I met on my recent trip to Haiti. They are all amazing people. It seriously has been an incredible four years and I look forward to continue working with FFCC while attending Point Loma Nazarene University --  and beyond! FFCC has truly helped bring out my passion to help people locally and globally.
