FFCC and Project Compassion partnered together to host two medical clinics in the hills of western Haiti. By weeks end, our team of doctors, nurses & support volunteers had cared for over 1,000 people, providing much needed care and encouragement.
In addition to providing care for the patients, we also provided opportunity for our Ayaiti Academy students to serve alongside us in the clinic. This was especially valuable and exciting for the students who have medical aspirations. We have one Academy student who wants to be a doctor and several who are studying nursing. They learned so much this week working with our doctors and nurses.
Here is a letter presented to us by one of the students at the end of the week:
"Hi, I am Joe and I am 23 years old. What I learned from you guys this week is love. How you put yourselves together and how you share your heart, your time, your knowledge, your hospitality, your kindness to my people, I can't find any other word for it- LOVE.
LOVE IS:
Kindness: you show my people your kindness through the clinic
Patience: you show your patience as you spent your time and week in Haiti to serve.
Goodness: you left your country and brought medication and food for my people.
Faithfulness: you are faithful because you say you will come back to the people of Gressier and Haiti and then you do it.
Support everyone: you support any kind of thing. You are not afraid to touch my people who are sick. Even when they cough to your face or have some transmitted disease, you are not afraid. Even when some of you are sick, you still finish the work.
God bless each one of you. May everything your hands touch, prosper.
Love you so much handsome friends,
--Joe"
Our journey was not without mishap-- cancelled flight, lost luggage, illness, minor injuries, and more. But I don't believe any of us would trade all that went wrong with the amazing experience of being a part of a team that makes such an impact as articulated above!
We have another medical trip scheduled for the first week in November. If you are interested in hearing more about it, contact Tina Socha at tina.socha@san.rr.com.
