Dear FFCC Team Member,
 check in line

It's Friday!!! Aaahhh Friday, the day most of us look forward to all week.  We anticipate it and keep one eye focused on it all week long.  It is the end of our work week, the beginning of our weekend.  It is a day to reflect on what has happened over the past week, month or year, but for many, Friday is not a day to look forward to, it is simply another day to be survived.  It is another day to wonder if they will get to eat, have a place to sleep or have clean water to drink.

FFCC is partnering with San Diego's homeless on May 14, 2011 to package 100,000 meals for another of our global communities, Japan.  This uniquely tailored event will be held in downtown San Diego at the Salvation Army building (825 7th Ave, San Diego, CA 92101).  As we team up to package food and hope for others we will also be helping our homeless neighbors to experience the worth and dignity of service - and feel valued rather than invisible.  We have a very special opportunity to show others what an impact their gift of time can make for others.

This Friday as you reflect back over your week, think about all that we take for granted, like food and shelter and consider giving your gift of time to help others in need.

 japan orphanageHelp for Japan's Orphans!

FFCC is teaming up with two non-profit organizations in Japan --Living Dreams and Smile Kids Japan.  These two organizations are working directly with the orphanages  that were damaged the most by the earthquake and tsunami, as well as those that are taking in the newly orphaned children of Japan.  Your donations of games and toys will help to heal children that have survived against the odds and will rebuild a warm and caring home environment. You can find a full list of the games and toys needed right here.

If you can provide any of these items, please bring them to the Food Packaging Event at the Salvation Army between 9:00am and 1:00pm on Saturday, May 14th.  You can also drop them off in advance at Dream Dinners in Poway.

SAN DIEGO TEACHER OF THE YEAR JOINS COMMUNITY

FOR COUNTY'S LARGEST RUMMAGE SALE

The San Diego County Teacher of the Year will join local community groups,

churches and individuals from across North County to host one of the largest

community-wide yard sales in San Diego on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Abraxas

High School, located at 12450 Glen Oak Road, Poway, CA 92064.

Former Abraxas student Shaylene Watkins was recently named San Diego

County Teacher of the Year and will hold her title until this October. "Abraxas

saved my life and opened doors to my future," says Watkins. "Abraxas showed

me I could take control of my educational path despite not having a typical home

life situation or financial support."

The public is asked to drop off donations of gently used, quality home items at

the Abraxas parking lot on Saturday April 30, Saturday May 7, and Saturday May 14th from 10 a.m. - 2p.m. Items will be available for sale on Saturday, May 21st from 9 a.m. - 2p.m. Proceeds from the sale will benefit student services at Abraxas, as the school receives no funding for outside activities such as sports, music or prom.
