Dear FFCC Team Member,
Bonswa, Komon ou ye?
On Saturday, April 2nd, a team of 20 FFCC volunteers from San Diego arrived on the shores of Haiti to help in the recovery and rebuilding effort. This was FFCC's 6th team into Haiti. It was comprised of high school students from Mt. Carmel, Rancho Bernardo, and Poway High Schools. Our trip objectives were to continue the building of a children's orphanage, the installation of water filtration systems and to love on the hundreds of children everywhere we went. The team layed block, framed columns for cement, pick axed and shoveled over 40 tons of dirt, one shovel at a time. They then mixed and poured cement, and by the time we finished, the building was ready for trusses and roof sheeting to be installed. They labored hard each day in the hot and humid weather and never complained.
Each day, we would alternate and send half the team out to install water filters while the other half continued the work on the orphanage. The team installed over 30 water filters in homes and tents in the city of Leogane and Carrefour. Many of the homes for whom we provided filters were families that had lost husbands, wives, or children in the earthquake. All were suffering from typhoid, dysentery, fever, or stomach aches. The families were so grateful for this gift of water and many had been the recipients of the packaged meals we have shipped over the months. One family we helped had over 10 people living in a 15x20 tent/shed. The mother's name is Mecina and she is raising her children on her own. One of her daughters had her arm amputated as a result of being trapped under their house from the earthquake. Despite the poor, poor living conditions the family was making the best of their circumstances and so grateful for the gift of clean water. It's always so hard to put an experience like this into words and whatever words you find seem so inadequate. Rick, one of our team members, put it this way, "I saw God at work in the hearts of people each day. I would never have dreamed that I would be in the Caribbean Ocean hand-in-hand with the Haitian orphans singing 'This is the day that the Lord has made.' This was certainly a Spirit-orchestrated trip, and I learned more in this one week about suffering, pain, rebuilding and faith, than I have ever experienced."
Thank you team for an outstanding effort and congratulations on a job well done!!

Help for Japan's Orphans! FFCC is teaming up with two non-profit organizations in Japan --Living Dreams and Smile Kids Japan. These two organizations are working directly with the orphanages that were damaged the most by the earthquake and tsunami, as well as those that are taking in the newly orphaned children of Japan. Your donations of games and toys will help to heal children that have survived against the odds and will rebuild a warm and caring home environment. You can find a full list of the games and toys needed right here. If you can provide any of these items, please bring them to the Food Packaging Event at the Salvation Army between 9:00am and 1:00pm on Saturday, May 14th. You can also drop them off in advance at Dream Dinners in Poway. |

In Memoriam... The wife of a friend of FFCC passed away after a long battle with breast cancer. Rae Ray, wife of FFCC supporter and volunteer John Ray, lost her battle with cancer in February. Rae was a devoted wife and mother of three grown children. She fought this disease with great strength, dignity and grace, and she will be missed by all who loved her. In her memory, the family asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to FFCC to continue the fight against hunger. FFCC recently received a check for $490! Thank you, Ray Family, for honoring the memory of your wife, mother, and friend in such a generous and selfless way. FFCC promises to be a good steward of this gift. |
