Dear FFCC Team Member,
 haiti 8-10

We did it!!

FFCC Haiti Team #6 is on the ground in Haiti!  Here's a dispatch from team member, Steve Socha, to give you a taste of how things are going:

Day two was quite a day! Began with the whole team working at the orphanage, moving block, shoveling, trenching and sweating up a storm! The temps were pretty high but a nice breeze and passing clouds were a blessing.  Lots of progress made toward getting the first building on the property ready to go. Aaron shared his vision for the orphanage and school with the team tonight and we are all fired up to get back out there tomorrow!

Part of the team went to Leogane in the afternoon to install water filters. Leogane was at the epicenter of the earthquake and 80% of its buildings were destroyed and 30,000 people killed. The needs there are great for water, electricity and education. We will have teams out there all day tomorrow installing filters, bringing safe drinking water to these families. Pray that we teach them how to use them well!

As many may now know, the election results in Haiti were made known tonight. As we drove to Leogane, there were armed UN troops about every 200 feet along the road. As it turned out, that was unnecessary as the people's choice won! There is mostly celebrating in Haiti tonight and for that we are grateful. The people of Haiti have not had much to celebrate of late!

Everyone worked hard today and we are all pretty tired. Pray for replenishing rest to restore these tired, heat-exhausted bodies. Everyone is feeling fine and excited to make a difference again tomorrow.

We have a great team and the girls are all doing great. Moms and Dads, you would be impressed and very proud to see how hard your kids worked today. I was humbled by their energy and their desire to get the job done. Awesome, truly awesome. As a board member of FFCC, I can say that they represent us very well. They also represent the US, San Diego and your families and you should be very proud. I know I am!

Power has been out sporadically during the Team's stay, but we did receive a short dispatch a day later that 13 water filters had been installed in Leogame.  All of the team is feeling good but very tired from hard days of work on the orphanage.

Pray for strength for the Team and for their mission!

homeless prep crewAnother Homeless Outreach Success!

This past Monday was another great night at the Salvation Army in downtown San Diego feeding our homeless guests. Grace Lutheran Church of Escondido provided the meal--complete with homemade cookies!--Shadow Mountain Community Church provided the much-appreciated coffee, and Cornerstone Church sorted and distributed clothes and water. For many of the volunteers this was their first experience serving and interacting with our homeless neighbors. Everyone had a great time and look forward to helping again. We were all blessed to be a blessing! And in the words of one young volunteer, "It was the right thing to do."

Come and do "the right thing" and join FFCC on the first Monday of the month and you'll be a blessing to our neighbors in need. If your church or organization would like to provide the meal or other items, and/or if you have any questions, please contact Phil at philffcc@san.rr.com.

Team Tanzania laid the foundations for an extension to the Singida Children's Center during their February trip.  You can see by this picture that in the few weeks since, this extension of storefronts with adjacent playground (out of view) is nearing completion!

When completed, the stores will be rented to local merchants and will be an ongoing income source for the Children's Center as it continues to feed nearly 1,000 meals daily to homeless kids in Singida.
