Dear   ,
 family cutout

FFCC has been providing support to a family in North County, a mom and dad and two boys that are living in a low income apartment complex.  The family lived in Oakland where the father became the victim of a random shooting that left him a paraplegic.  The mom is a delightful and caring person who has learned to make the most of her circumstances.  A neighbor of this family shared some of the challenges that they were facing.  She said, "You have to meet this woman, she helps everyone in our complex.  The family has no car so they spend a lot of time at home.  The mom is the self-appointed social director of the complex."  She now volunteers with FFCC by reaching out to others in her complex by passing out produce and groceries that FFCC distributes from our food pantry.  Her sons are ages nine and four and are  learning to become community servants just like their mom.  She babysits for the single moms in the complex, she plans "Fun Fridays" for the neighbors to come out and socialize, she cooks meals for others, and she is always checking in on those who live alone.  The family's life is not easy and they often don't have the money needed to buy the extras, including clothes for the boys.  But the mom's example has made a big difference in the lives of her neighbors.  FFCC is pleased to be able to assist this family and we know she will always pay it forward.

Thank you, FFCC volunteers, for all the incredible work you do throughout our County that will never make the headlines but is changing the lives of countless families.  You are the silent heroes of San Diego!

haiti team structure Countdown for Haiti Teams 6&7!

FFCC Haiti Teams are making final preparations for their work in Haiti.  On April 2-10, 22 volunteers comprised of high school students and adult volunteers will be focused on continuing the construction work on a children's orphanage and school in the city of Gressier that FFCC began last August.  They will also be installing water filters and assembling the mobile clinic in the Kabwa region for the medical team that will be arriving the following week.  There are students from Poway, Rancho Bernardo. and Mt. Carmel High Schools investing their spring break caring for the children and people in Haiti.

The following week, April 9-16, a team of 30 doctors, nurses, and other medical and non-medical volunteers will be staffing a mobile clinic in the mountainous area of Gressier called Kabwa.  The location of the clinic was chosen by the Mayor of Gressier due to the urgent medical needs in this area.  FFCC volunteers have designed a pop-up mobile clinic made out of 40+ tarps that make up the clinic walls and examination rooms.  The medical team has met with the local Haiti medical staff and have a good understanding of the kinds of issues they will encounter.  The team will be fully self-contained with equipment and medicines to meet the needs of the people in the area.  The medical team anticipates seeing over 800 patients each day.   Four thousand children and adults are about to have their lives impacted by San Diego volunteers over the course of this week.

Please keep these teams in your prayers as they travel abroad to provide food, clean drinking water, medical care, and education.  If you would like to receive daily updates on the teams' progress, email Phil at philffcc@san.rr.com and he will add you to the Haiti update list.

If you would like to make history by joining the Haiti #8 team, August 5 - 13, plan on joining us on Monday night, March 28, for an information meeting at 6:30pm.  Email Phil at philffcc@san.rr.com if you plan on attending or have questions.

donor hands Urgent Request!

Suzanne Stewart Pohlman, the Executive Director at North County InterFaith,  is at her daughter's bedside at UCSD and has put out a plea:

Katie my daughter is in ICU in need of a lung transplant. She has suffered from cystic fibrosis her whole life and is in the final stages. I'm sick with sadness that they have the technology to save her life but not the matching lungs. In honor of Katie's fight to live, I'm asking for a live donor. Must be non-smoker, 18-55, healthy, 5' 8" or taller, A+ blood. Call me at 760-579-8275

 Everyone, important immediate updates:

  • Donors can be of O+ blood type as well as A+!
  • Donor height should be 5 ft. 9 in. or taller . . .
  • Age limit: 18 yrs to 55 yrs, with consideration for older!  The main thing is to be in good health, and still, no smoking history.
  • Here is another online link to a video which really puts the face on this donation need.  Please distribute far and wide along your own personal networks, faith centers, etc!

Please add Katie to your prayer list and share her need so that living donors will know they are needed.  Thank you.
