Digging trenches Children's Center Playground 2011Feb15
February 17, 2011
Dear   ,
Helping feed Kids at Center June 2010 trip

Back to Africa!  Another FFCC team ventured across the world on February 12th, landing safely in Tanzania.  The team was off to a running start from the time their feet hit the ground!

A visit with Mama Lynn and the children at the Light in Africa orphanage brought much joy!  Mama Lynn's Food Kitchen still feeds hundreds of very poor and sick people every week, many infected with HIV.  She is running low on meals and may only have a couple of weeks' worth of food left.  Phil discussed the need to step up our efforts in San Diego to package more meals.  So, everyone  - please get ready and continue to raise funds to buy more bulk food so we can have more Food Packaging Events.  You are helping save lives every day!

The team then traveled to Singida, the home of our first Children's Center, where hundreds of children are fed each day, in conjunction with attending school.  The kids at the Center performed songs and a dance routine for the team. They were definitely happy to see their FFCC friends.  Apparently the kids and staff have spent the last two weeks cleaning up around the Center in preparation for their arrival.

The team spent yesterday digging trenches for the playground that will be built.  Today, they are hand cutting and laying rebar.  Keep in mind that these tasks are quite a bit more labor intensive in Africa. They only have access to hacksaws to cut and some simple jigs to bend the rebar.  Then, they will need to twist wires together by hand to hold the pieces of rebar together.  The ultimate payoff of all this work will be the look on the children's faces when the project is finally complete and they have a safe, fun place to just be kids.  Thanks for helping make this dream come true!

 11-6 volunteers23rd Packaging Event!

As you read above, we need to package more food! On March 26th and 27th, FFCC will be teaming up with The Church at Rancho Bernardo (CRB) to host our 23rd Food Packaging Event.  We are hoping to package 1/2 million meals or more.  Sign ups will begin March 6th.

So, check your calendars and get ready to go online March 6th to reserve your spot!  We are asking all volunteers to please consider a donation of $20 to help support 80 meals that will be given away locally and shipped globally.  All donations are tax deductible.

We are also asking volunteers to bring reading glasses and over-the-counter medications for individuals in Haiti and Tanzania.  Click here or go to the FFCC website for more information.
