Dear   ,
 dorm beds
Are you ready to join us for Tanzania trip #8?

Tanzania Trip # 7 has added another chapter to the ongoing adventure and future of this incredible country. These are some of the highlights of the trip:

1) The team visited the town of Mererani.  A new door was opened to help and assist the hundreds of abandoned children in this area.  Food sent from San Diego has provided life to children and adults in this area over the last year.
2) FFCC met with the Social Welfare Director in Babati to discuss international adoptions.  The final plans are being put together to make this process a reality.  There are four children ready for adoption once the plans are finalized.  Unbelievable!!
3) FFCC met with the District Commissioner in Singida Town.  He has committed to provide land to FFCC to expand the Children's Center feeding program.    The land will be used to train the children at the Center in the areas of agriculture and livestock.  4) The District Commissioner has requested that FFCC assist him in designing and building a recreational facility that provides a playground for the children of Singida, a soccer field, basketball court, and other forms of recreation.
5) FFCC received permission to build a medical dispensary for the Hadzabe Tribe.  This medical clinic will save hundreds of lives in one of the remotest places of East Africa.  The Medical Director of this area has committed to provide ongoing supplies and training for the Hadzabe people.
6) It's official!  The Girls Dormitory at Gunda school is officially opened and ready for the start of school in September.  Ninety-six girls will now have a safe and secure place to live and the opportunity to attend school.  This is certainly one of the greatest accomplishments FFCC has experienced over the past four years.
7) FFCC had the honor and pleasure of meeting with the Prime Minister of Tanzania, the Honorable Mizengo Katanza Pinda.  The Prime Minister will be helping to eliminate port and transportation costs required to deliver the meals sent from San Diego ($4,000 or more with each delivery).  He was very appreciative of the work accomplished by FFCC over the past four years.  He has requested FFCC's support to continue with the food and the other ongoing projects that touch and impact thousands throughout his country.
8) Negotiations have already begun with Gunda Secondary School and FFCC to help with the construction of a boys dormitory.  The school is so grateful for the construction of past classrooms, computer lab, teacher housing, the girls dormitory and the thousands of meals FFCC has shipped to the school over the years.  The Headmaster of the school has said "FFCC has given these students a hope and a future."

If you have any interest in any of the above mentioned projects please contact Phil Harris at [email protected] .

Even with so many memories and so many friendships that have filled our hearts to overflowing, we know some of our greatest battles still lie ahead.  Some of our distribution locations throughout Tanzania have been without food for the last three months, and more schools and school supplies and lab equipment are needed.  We will be sharing more specifics with you in the days ahead.  But today we want to stop and give thanks to God for all the doors He has opened and the great success we have experienced while traveling and working in Tanzania.  We also want to thank our thousands of volunteers that support and assist our work in Tanzania in so many ways through food packaging events, donation of school supplies, books, computers, shoes, quilts, financial donations, etc.  I pray the Lord continues to bless America and especially San Diego so we can continue to be a blessing to those in need here and abroad.

The Dorm is Done!
the promise Team TZ #7 was blessed with the task of putting the finishing touches on the Girls' Dormitory! We purchased the supplies necessary to furnish the dorm rooms, including mattresses, waste baskets, mirrors, flip flops and cleaning supplies. We also brought some of the quilts that were handmade here locally to TZ and put them on the beds. That was a special moment. Knowing the Gunda girls will have a safe, warm, and happy place to live while going to school, made us all pause in our own way to thank God for all He accomplished through us. The rooms were sunny and bright, especially with colorful curtains we had made and hung, when we got through. There are 24 rooms in all.

That being said, only half the rooms have been sponsored and named and we'd love to have the rest of them sponsored by the time the girls move in for the fall term. For $250, you and/or your church, organization, etc, can sponsor a room and name it after an attribute of character. For more info visit the FFCC website or email Jo Ann Shaw at [email protected] .
