The Verified Volunteers' Corner
|
VV recently launched their Budget Season campaign and have organized this upcoming webinar featuring our own Amy Lytle! Scheduled for September 17th at 2pm, the webinar will also feature insights from Chuck Kraft, the Executive Director of Ronald McDonald House of Winston-Salem. Funding for volunteer programs is often at the mercy of higher-level managers, directors, and board members. You know which resources you need to build and maintain an effective and impactful volunteer program, but how do you make a compelling case to those who control the budget? In this webinar, you'll learn how to effectively measure and report on the financial and non-financial impact of your program, to show a return on investment (ROI) that matters. You will get a firm understanding of:
- How you can increase the transparency, accountability, innovation, and credibility of your volunteer program - and how doing so will benefit you and your program
- How the proper investments in volunteer infrastructure increase cost-savings, client service capacity and efficiency, and visibility - and help you build a stronger potential donor base
- The downsides of not making the right investment in nonprofit volunteer programs.
More details and registration are on the Verified Volunteers website. They've also prepared a quiz called Are You Ready to Plan Your Volunteer Program Budget?. It asks a few short Yes or No questions to determine whether the taker is a budget genius or could maybe use a little guidance. Use the link above to access it. More than 300 people have already signed up for the webinar, and Amy would love to have a strong showing from local nonprofits!

September 2015- Vol 8, Issue 9
|
| |
No. I am sorry, but it can't possibly be mid-September. I mean, it's hotter than the surface of the sun out there as I write this, although they say that cooler temps are coming. There is no way we are just days away from the autumnal solstice. (Extra points to me because I just used the word "autumnal" in a sentence!) But our programming pace says otherwise, and I'm sure the weather will start behaving soon.
Our fall programming kicked off with the Leadership Essentials for Women portion of our Women's Emerging Leaders program in the days leading up to the Labor Day holiday. We welcomed a fantastic group of women who will continue to experience the benefits of participating in this program for months to come, and look forward to having them join us for the Nonprofit Essentials series over the next year.
Perhaps the right question isn't what's coming up for us in the next couple of months, but what isn't! Below, you'll find registration information for our first Nonprofit Essentials classes of the 2015-2016 year, meetings for our Finance Officers and Philanthropy networks, and our Board Basics class.
In addition, we're finalizing plans for our Best Practice Breakfast Celebrating Nonprofit Awareness Month. We're excited to bring back Eric Rowles and his team from Leading To Change to lead us in a session on "PLAYING WITH FIRE: Conflict, Communication, and our TRUE COLORS of Leadership! " Save the date for November 18th and meet us out at WinMock at Kinderton for what should be an inspiring and dynamic morning! All organizations and business that are Supporting or Consulting/ Vendor Partners and purchase a table or event sponsorship will be eligible for a drawing of one FREE DAY OF TRAINING with Leading ToChange--a value worth well over $1,000! Look for more details and pricing on our website soon, and a mailed postcard invitation will be sent to our partners later this month.
As part of the breakfast, we'll be recognizing the winner of The High Five Award. But, in order to do that, we need your nominations! The Award is a $5,000 cash prize that recognizes innovative, imaginative, or creative ways that local nonprofits have improved or expanded program/service delivery, or developed inventive methods to address a particular problem or initiative. By recognizing these efforts, we hope to inspire other nonprofits to think differently about how they meet the challenge of their missions.
Looking even further into the future, we've also opened up applications for our next Project Blueprint class that will kick off at the end of January, 2016. (There, you see it--2016!) If you know someone who is interested in this high-quality board training experience geared to those who are typically under-represented on nonprofit boards (especially women, people of color, and those under 40,) please send them our way (you can also download a brochure for them.) Thanks to the support of our co-presenter,The United Way of Forsyth County, scholarship funds are available for those who otherwise would not be able to participate. These lunch-time classes are scheduled once a week from Jan 26th to March 22nd, and provide both an excellent learning and networking opportunity.
Yours in service,
Executive Director

NEWS YOU CAN USE!
Great Data Available for Every NC County!
|
The N.C. Association of County Commissioners has released the 2015 NC County Snapshots with information about the demographic, social, and educational statuses of all 100 counties in North Carolina. Much of the information - such as poverty data, population growth information, dropout rates, food insecurity levels, and health statistics - shows the needs for nonprofits' services throughout the state, and can be incredibly useful when designing services and crafting case statements for grant proposals. While many nonprofits in Winston-Salem are able to take advantage of the data provided by Forsyth Futures, we know the nonprofits we serve in our other counties aren't as lucky. We believe this tool can be a great resource for them.

FEATURED CONSULTING PARTNER:
Allegacy Federal Credit Union
|
For the past seven years, Allegacy, a HandsOn Supporting Partner, has been committed to creating a culture of health and wellness for our employees. In June 2015, they were once again named as one of the Triad's Healthiest Employers by The Triad Business Journal.
It is clear that our community is facing a national crisis with the increase of preventable diseases due to unhealthy lifestyles, which by the year 2020 will account for more than 75% of deaths in the United States. The onset of these diseases typically occurs during our "working years," meaning that employers have a tremendous opportunity to influence healthier habits. At Allegacy, they have taken this responsibility seriously and as a result, have seen many positive outcomes including reduced risk factors for our employees, increased employee engagement, and lower health care costs than their peer groups. They now want to share what they have learned and experienced with other organizations.
Allegacy Business Solutions* is implementing AllHealth Lite, a new wellness option for organizations with fewer than 50 employees that might not otherwise be able to offer such benefits to their employees. AllHealth Lite is designed from their own internal wellness initiative to provide a meaningful and affordable way for employers to begin building a culture of health in their organization. For a per-employee annual fee, small businesses and nonprofits will receive access to a full range of organizational health and wellness benefits, including membership to the credit union.
Here is a closer look at what employers receive when they purchase AllHealth Lite for their employees:
- A bi-weekly health and wellness newsletter

- Educational programs and materials to enhance wellbeing
- Financial literacy training on topics that promote financial wellness
