Martin Luther King Jr. Assembly

On Friday, January 17th, Odle Middle School students held our annual Martin Luther King Jr. Assembly.  The assembly was truly remarkable and historic.  Odle students watched the drama class perform a skit on diversity, listened as the choir performed 3 patriotic songs,  and witnessed democracy in action as 13 immigrants became citizens of the United States during a naturalization ceremony.  It was an honor and privilege to honor Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream of equality by welcoming these new citizens into our country as they help expand the rich diversity of our country. We would like to give a big shout out to Ms. Amy Yaeger and the Leadership Students for organizing this  truly memorable event and all the people that helped make the assembly a success.

Volunteer Needs

Parents play a critical role at Odle.   We encourage parent involvement and regular communication  with the school to see what help is needed.

 Viking Hut

Please sign up at  www.SignUpGenius.com/go/30E0548ADA822A13-viking/459370  if you can help in the Viking Hut one day a week or once a month.  The Hut had to be closed some days this week because we were short on helpers.  It's an easy job and a great way to be involved without "embarrassing" your middle schooler!    If you've never done it before and need some help or would like to partner up with an experienced person, please email Sonia at soniab795@gmail.com or Michelle at deerkopc@msn.com who would be willing to show you the ropes.

Interesting Field Trips

Friends of Odle Music (FOOM) is a volunteer, parent group which supports all of Odle's music programs/students.  We can always use more help!  Check out our website,odlemusic.org, and, if you can, join us at our next meeting, Wednesday January 22nd, 6:30 pm in the band room. New members are always welcome!

Many thanks to our Orchestra Winter Concert concession stand volunteers: Karen Choi, Sandra Gan, Amelia Kwok, Pean Lim and Carolyn Yee.  Special thanks to Shirley Lim for coordinating this event!  As always, every dollar earned goes directly to support our students.

Upcoming volunteer opportunities with FOOM include chaperoning the 7th/8th grade band/orchestra field trip to Benaroya Hall to see the Seattle Symphony rehearse (time commitment-8:30 am-1:00 pm Wed. Feb. 12th), chaperoning at the Orchestra Retreat, Saturday February 8th.  The retreat is at Jubilee Reach Center, address, from 9:00 am-2:30 pm.  Any amount of time you can assist would be helpful.  And it's not too late to think about whether you can assist as a chaperone or private driver for the overnight field trip to the NW Orchestra Festival in Gresham, Oregon.  Time commitment-Friday, March 7th from 2:30 pm to Saturday, March 8th, approx. 11:30 pm.  If you are interested in participating in any of the above, please contact either Barb Skotte at bskotte@yahoo.com or Sara Rowe at sara@rowefamily.net.  Chaperoning at any or all of the above are wonderful opportunities to enjoy some exceptional musical performances.  Please volunteer if you can!

Also, if you volunteer and also work for a company which matches donations (e.g. Microsoft, Boeing), please let us assist you in submitting for an additional matching donation.
