CONGRATULATIONS VICE PRINCIPAL SHEARER

Our vice principal and his family welcomed a new member to their family.  Baby Jillian arrived this week!  Congratulations and best wishes for a happy summer with the new baby.

LETTER FROM KRISTA AND DOMINIQUE

Dear Odle Families,

Thank you for your support this year!  Thanks to you, we were able to supply the school with volunteers, literally from the first day to the last day.  Your generosity made it possible for PTSA to make significant monetary grants for everything from Reader's Choice books and science card games to laptops and violas.  So many parents have given us encouragement along the way.  Thank you.

We have also been amazed by the students at Odle.  Dancers, chess players, musicians, language learners, actors, scientists, artists, athletes, mathletes and video production experts, Odle students EXCEL in every area.  They are being brought to this high level of achievement through your parenting and through the outstanding teaching that they are receiving at Odle.  In fact, it's always nearly impossible to pick just two educators to win the Crystal Apple Award for outstanding teaching each year.  Winners will be announced at the field day assembly this week!

We really enjoyed working with Eric McDowell, Jonathan Shearer and Duke Truong.  We are grateful to them for their leadership and strong support for PTSA at Odle.  Marilyn Kelley, Liliana Medina, Mary Shavrini, Liliana Benavides and Cynthia Vaca, thank you for everything!

It has been a real pleasure to serve this community as PTSA Co-presidents for the past two years.

Have a great summer!

Krista Hammer & Dominique Vincenti

VOLUNTEER THANKS!

8TH GRADE PARTY

We were very pleased with the 8th grade party last Friday and could not have pulled everything together without lots of help!   Principals Eric McDowell and Duke Truong were there throughout the event, even staying late to help clean up at the end.   Custodians Khon Nhan, Andrew Tilton and Bill McCann were incredibly helpful. Thanks also to Daniel Frieson for chaperoning. Amy Yaeger and her leadership students Ramou Jallow and Matthew Hervey helped with signage, morning announcements and photo booth props.

Thank you to all of the students who helped carry tables, decorate and clean-up.

A very large and heartfelt thank you to all of the parents who helped at the party:

Tamar Bayer, Laurie Beck, Jennifer Castle, Lauren Castle, Steve Chen, Eva Collins, Tim Collins, Margaret David, Aubrey Devine, Whitney Devine, Adam Dibba, Linnea Eng, Cathi Hervey, Laura Hitchens, Gina Li, Vicki Liao, Holly Oppfelt, Jana Pallis, Candace Sayyadi,  Marcia Teixeira.

And a special thanks to Whitney Devine for coordinating the volunteers and to Jana Pallis for coordinating prizes.

We also had many generous donations of cool prizes from Tamar Bayer, Eva Collins, Holly Oppfelt, Candace Sayyadi, Leslie Adams, Marcia Teixeira and Jana Pallis.

Thanks to the following parents we had plenty of cookies, goodies, chips and drinks:

Leslie Adams, Steve Chen, Linda DeBruin , Phyllis Knoll, Lisa Newson , Molly Peebles, Candace Sayyadi, Beth Schrader, Irene Tampi, Laura Techico, Marcia Teixeira, Dao Vu, Laura Wall, and Annabelle Yang.

YEARBOOK THANKS

It took quite a few parents to hand out yearbooks last week during lunch and after school on Friday. We really appreciate the following volunteers: Bharti Aurora, Laurie Beck, Anne Bentley, Wilson Ping Deng , Shaila Shetty, Selina Sultana, Susan Aluma and Kuo Yaling.

FOOM THANKS

On behalf of all the music teachers and students, thank you for your support of the 2013 Spring Sounds of Odle CD & Gresham DVD Sale.  Especially, we would like to acknowledge the volunteers who have made the CD & DVD project possible and successful:

REIMBURSEMENT FORMS DUE

Volunteers and Chairs for PTSA, please turn in any outstanding reimbursement request forms ASAP before we close the PTSA books for the 2012-2013 school year.  These are due NOW.

OPEN POSITIONS

Legislative Representative: Read the political blog from the State PTSA and write small blurbs for the Viking News to keep parents informed about what is happening in Olympia on education topics. Almost everything can be done from home over email. Also, attend PTSA's legislative assembly as a voting delegate for Odle which usually happens in late October.

VP Fundraising: Serve on the friendly PTSA board (1 meeting per month) and also coordinate the March Magic publicity and letter campaign. It's not a fancy event, just a Pass the Hat letter in the mail! The template for this is already established and last year's chair will be there to mentor the new VP at every step. This should be one of the most rewarding PTA jobs of the entire year.

Reflections Chair or Co-Chairs: Do you love the arts? This job is very rewarding and a great opportunity to network with the parents at other schools. The Reflections chair is under the constant direction of the city-level PTA Reflections chair. Training meetings for chairs begin sometime during the summer. The job only lasts for the first part of the year.

Staff appreciation Co-chair:  Archana Verma, our current chair, would like a co-chair to help her coordinate staff appreciation events.  Ideally, we'd love to find a 6th grade parent.

Webmaster:  This is a very low time commitment job that can be done without coming to school or to any meetings.  Please ask your spouses.  Our outgoing webmaster is a dad at Odle; this is a great position for a dad.

Emergency Prep Chair:  Meet with the Vice Principal and his team.  Assist them in keeping the inventory spreadsheet current and make purchases for them as directed.  Help get the word to parents about the school's emergency procedures.

Please email krista_hammer@yahoo.com for job descriptions. Or call Krista with questions 968-2590.
