GENERAL PTSA MEETING OF JUNE 4: CANCELLED

Please watch for an Eblast next week with the new date for our final PTSA General Meeting of the year. We needed to put a few finishing touches on the 2013-2014 budget before it is ready for your approval.

REIMBURSEMENT FORMS DUE

Volunteers and Chairs for PTSA, please turn in any outstanding reimbursement request forms asap before we close the PTSA books for the 2012-2013 school year.  These are due NOW before it's too late.

CONGRATULATIONS GOLDEN ACORN AWARD WINNERS!

A special committee of the Odle PTSA presented Golden Acorn Awards to three volunteers to recognize their outstanding service to all members of the school community. A contribution in the name of the recipients is made to the Washington State PTA Scholarship Program.  The Odle PTSA award winners for 2012-2013 school year were Adam Dibba, Vicki Liao and Krista Hammer. Write-ups for each of these awards will be posted sometime this week on the odleptsa.org website.

LIP SYNC CONGRATULATIONS AND THANKS!

Thank you to all the parents and staff that made the Lip Sync such a successful night. Our great judges were Mrs. Pilichowski, our beloved Odle PE teacher, Ms. Albertson the art teacher at Lake Hills and Erin Sartain a parent that stepped up at the last minute.

The students were all great and the acts were fabulous. One could see the effort the kids took to make a good show. The 2 runners-up were: Anirudh Prakash and The Hey Mickey/Booty swing group with Matthew Hervey, Melisa Ferati. Callie LeDoux-Trumbell, Celine Shaw and Billy Jensen. 3rd place went to the amazing group of 12 girls: Eveniya Gorobets, Annie Mullins, Julia Ruby Gee, Ayana Harscoet, Crystal Ma, Jessica Lo, Ruhi Pudipeddi, Christine Chen, Katie Chen, Stephanie Lu, Jessica Dai, Sophie Wang. Announcers: Lukas Corey, Patrick Liu, Andrew Xue, Caleb Ren. 2nd Place went to Julia Gee who at the last minute decide to perform a solo act.1st Place went to Anne Lim and Sophie Lee with the greatest Taylor Swift mash-up!

Well done Vikings and thanks again to Michelle Deerkop, Rita Frost, Krista Hammer, Laura Hitchens, Rachel, Julia Krill, Whitney Devine, and all the other parents that helped out! Also a huge thanks to Mrs. Burmester who made the whole event possible and is always such a joy to work with.

Get ready for a great show next year!

--Cathi Hervey, Lip Sync chair

MORE THANKS

Odle PTSA, parents and students thank Cathi Hervey for organizing Lip Sync & Mrs. Burmester for her hard work and gifted teaching. It was a lot of work for both of these people to pull all the pieces together, but the amazing end product was worth it! Everything went very smoothly thanks to Cathi, Mrs. Burmester, the talented kids and our wonderful parent volunteers.

OPEN POSITIONS

Viking Hut Bookkeeper: Come into Odle 1 ½ hour a week to help count the money. Keep a spreadsheet of drinks purchased for the Hut for our excise taxes.  That's it! This person does not have to order inventory or do anything else. This job was created to take a bit of the load off the Hut chair and the assistant treasurer.

Legislative Representative: Read the political blog from the State PTSA and write small blurbs for the Viking News to keep parents informed about what is happening in Olympia on education topics. Almost everything can be done from home over email. Also, attend PTSA's legislative assembly as a voting delegate for Odle which usually happens in late October.

VP Fundraising: Serve on the friendly PTSA board (1 meeting per month) and also coordinate the March Magic publicity and letter campaign. It's not a fancy event, just a Pass the Hat letter in the mail! The template for this is already established and last year's chair will be there to mentor the new VP at every step. This should be one of the most rewarding PTA jobs of the entire year.

Reflections Chair or Co-Chairs: Do you love the arts? This job is very rewarding and a great opportunity to network with the parents at other schools. The Reflections chair is under the constant direction of the city-level PTA Reflections chair. Training meetings for chairs begin sometime during the summer. The job only lasts for the first part of the year.

Please email krista_hammer@yahoo.com for job descriptions. Or call Krista with questions 968-2590.

8th GRADE PARTY

The 8th grade party will be in the Odle gym on June 14, from 3:15-5:15.

  • Sub sandwiches, cookies and drinks
  • Photo Booth
  • It's FREE. All you need is your permission slip.

Parent Homework for the 8th Grade Party

  • Please, we need so much help to make this party happen.   Sign up to donate cookies, drinks, chips and small prizes OR volunteer to chaperone. Please email cwdevine57@gmail.com as soon as you see this announcement so that we know we have the help and supplies we need. Whitney can give you a list of the specific items we need and/or put you in a volunteer station.
  • Ask your child for the permission slip. Sign it and make sure they turn it in to the main office or bring it on the day of the party.

PTSA sponsors this party and covers the costs of the DJ, FUN RENTS carnival games, sandwiches and security officer. We need YOU for all the rest. Thanks in advance for your help!
