Congratulations - Exciting National Science Bowl News

On January 26, teams of students from around the Northwest competed to determine a regional winner in the National Science Bowl competition.  Congratulations are in order because the winning regional team, Team Atom, just happens to be made up of students from Odle's Prism program! Two other teams, teams Galaxy and team Xenon were also made of students in Odle's Prism program and finished in the top 10!! Although this participation was not coordinated by the school or sponsored by PTA, we are very proud of those teams and their coaches and wish them good luck for the National.

Team Atom - coached by Cathy Zhao - 1st place

Patrick Wang - 8th grader
Erich Liang - 8th grader
Allen Yang - 8th grader
Timmy Wang - 6th grader
Vincent  Wang - 6th grader

Galaxy Science - coached by Divyang Upadhyay - top 10

Amith Vanmane - 8th Grade
Eshan Kemp - 6th Grade
Aum Upadhyay - 6th Grade
Mehek Dedhia - 6th Grade
Eshika Saxena - 6th Grade

Xenon Science - coached by Shaila Shetty-- finished 7th

Anirudh Prakash - 6th Grade
Colin Tang  -  6th Grade
Gabriel Shen -  6th Grade
Matthew Shum  -  6th Grade
Evan Tung - 6th Grade

The team organizers report that ours is the largest region in NSB (National Science Bowl).  There were 64 teams in the competition.   Teams Atom, Galaxy and Science all advanced to top 16!  With some unlucky incidences, Galaxy and Xenon were stopped at top 10.  However, Team Atom fought to the last minute and won the championship in this region!  Team Atom will go to Washington D.C representing our region and will compete at National Science Bowl in April.  All travel costs will be covered by NSB.

We are so proud of all of these students!  They are not only science smart but also disciplined very well.   They were facing veteran teams who were previous regional winners with a rich experience in science bowl competition.  The students never gave up and helped each other during the entire competition.  Coach Cathy Zhao reports being amazed by their excellence in both academics and team collaboration.  Winning the region championship is a great achievement for those students.

The Right to Dream - Civil Rights Presentation

The Right to Dream is a story about the personal struggle and sacrifice for civil rights in America. One actor recreates the story of a student's coming of age as an African American in Mississippi during the 1950s and 1960s. This program illuminates the issues of civil rights, leading audiences to understand how the fight against prejudice has shaped our history. Performance followed by a facilitated discussion.
