Gilchrist Center
New Spanish Literacy program at Long Branch Library
Adult literacy program

The Gilchrist Center has launched a new Spanish Literacy program in partnership with CENAES (Centro de Alfabetización en Español) at the Long Branch Library.

Thanks to this great partnership, residents who never had a chance to learn how to read and write in their native Spanish language finally get an opportunity to overcome this hurdle, enabling them to later transition into learning English, valuable life skills, and even GED, in the Long Branch neighborhood.

This program is free of charge and runs every Thursday from 6 to 8 pm at the Long Branch Library. In addition, students also benefit from accessing Library services, meeting its staff, and learning about other programs available to them and their children. For more

Hope to See You in Wheaton on Sunday October 20; Where Will You Serve on
Saturday October 26?

October is my favorite month. We celebrate the two things that make Montgomery County so special - our commitment to service and our rich diversity.

The World of Montgomery Festival, to be held Sunday October 20 from noon to 5 at Westfield Wheaton, is for all of Montgomery's one million people to come together and learn about each other and celebrate the multiple heritages that make up Montgomery County. The World of Montgomery Festival is for our newest immigrants and our long-time residents. We all have so much to learn from each other. In addition to the traditional entertainment, food, and crafts from around the world, the October 20 festival will feature an International Village that will make you feel like you are in our Sister Cities in El Salvador, Ethiopia, China, and India. Thanks to our partner KID Museum, this festival will introduce our youth to the fun and meaning of being a 21st century global citizen.
