30 Americans
For the first time, the DIA is offering a reduced special exhibition ticket price to residents of Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties. As a result, more than 6,000 visitors have already visited 30 Americans, a dynamic exhibition of contemporary art by African American artists, since it opened on Oct. 18. Nearly 600 people attended the 30 Americans Community Celebration on Oct. 22 to launch the opening week of the exhibition. The sold-out crowd enjoyed the exhibition, Detroit-themed snacks and drinks and live music. The following evening, the museum hosted College Night for students from tri-county colleges and universities. Free bus transportation was offered to and from a number of campuses, and more than 400 students viewed the exhibition, explored the permanent collection and danced the night away at no cost.

Admission to 30 Americans is free for all visitors on opening and closing days, and the first Saturday and Sunday Nov.-Jan. (including this weekend!), thanks to support from Ford Foundation and John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. Residents of Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties receive a $4 discount on adult tickets.

In an ongoing effort to involve students in DIA programs, the museum is featuring local student voices on the multimedia tour developed for 30 Americans. Eleven students from five tri-county high schools--Detroit Cristo Rey; Henry Ford II High School and Utica High School, both in Utica; Plymouth High School; and Bloomfield Hills High School--participated in the project. The DIA filmed and excerpted the students' dialogue for use in the multimedia tour, which is available for download from the Apple App Store and Google Play. Learn more here.
