Due  to  the cleaning of the beer room, which will take longer than expected, there will be no draft beer on Wednesday evening.

So enjoy the fine selection of bottled beer and other beverage selections.

Easter Egg Hunt

This Sunday, March 27

The ABYC staff will be organizing an egg hunt for the kids at 10:45 am on Sunday, March 27.

Chef Yan will be preparing a delicious lunch buffet. See menu below for details. It's a great way to get the family together in a lovely setting without having to cook, and the kids get more candy... oh boy!

Contact the restaurant 416 698 4498 ext 224 if you will be joining in the fun !

New Members Night

Thursday March 31
6 PM - Members Arrive and Sign in
7 PM - Introduction of New Members

Be sure to mark Thursday, March 31 on your calendars to attend ABYC's New Members Night. The Membership Committee invites all to attend this important event to welcome new members to the Club.

It is an opportunity for members who have joined over the past year to meet more established members of the Club, in a fun and relaxed manner. Come on down to the Club and meet our new members.

OH! And did you hear? We have three cases of wine to pour!!!!

Family Movie Night

Saturday April 2 at 5 PM

We are hosting our first family movie night! The plan is for the kids and parents to get to know each other and promote more family participation in our club events.

Please note:
  • We will provide food and drinks for the kids, and of course popcorn!
  • Parents can fend for themselves as the bar and restaurant will be open.
  • The movie is about 90 minutes long so I would estimate conclusion at 7:45 pm.
  • The movie will be shown at the carpeted area by the pool table so bring a blanket/pillow/anything your kids like to lounge on.
  • Movie will be WALL`E.

Special image of WALL'E sailing to ABYC!

So bring your kids (friends welcome), grandchildren, etc., and let's have a fun evening!

Please email us at alancoulter@rogers.com if you plan to attend and please include the number of kids. We need an estimate of numbers for Jan our chef to prepare the food. It should be a fun evening.

38 more sleeps to launch!

In anticipation of a great sailing season ahead, we have one key event just prior to Launch. At the April AGM, we will be presenting candidates for Senior Life and Associate/Dinghy Life Membership for your approval. The selection process is described in the ABYC By-Laws. The committees will be providing a recommendation to the Board April 4.

Should you wish to recognize and recommend an individual for Life Membership, in either category, you should send me your recommendation stating rationale, in writing, to srvc@abyc.on.ca no later than Thursday, March 31. I will forward any valid recommendations to the committees but ALL eligible Members are considered in the process.  Note - selection is based on a number of criteria and is not a popularity contest.

It's also customary to recognize members and present 10 and 25 year member pins. If you're at one of the threshold levels, please let me know which and if you plan on being at the AGM.

Regarding staffing, we have received a number of resumes for well qualified candidates for Club Manager. These will be reviewed shortly by the HR committee and Board before next steps.

As the weather improves, many of you will be coming down to the Club to check on your boats and look around at the progress that has been made on White Wall construction. Be reminded that the area is an active construction zone and, unless you're directly involved, please stay clear.

This is a good time to remind those who were scrambling for 2015 work hours in December that Saturday work parties and committee projects are ongoing. Why wait until December - start contributing and logging those hours now!

5-1/2 weeks to New Years!

Work Party Season

The crew last week did a fantastic job! I have provided some action shots below to awe and inspire!
Well, we had beautiful sunshine at last week's workparty but it was also very cold. We can't feel our faces when we're outside, but we love it! Apologies to the Weeknd (spelled properly, so no emails!)

This weekend (also spelled correctly) we have even more gravel to shovel and we also need to launch the school rafts. We will need to three or four people to help with the rafts and eight more to help with the back filling. I cannot be there next Saturday so, if you are coming down to help, look for a big pile of gravel, and that is your starting point - or wander around to the sailing school launch area to help with the rafts.

Remember the Spring All Day Work Party is coming up Saturday, April 9.  I will have all of the jobs in the job jar soon (but they are not there yet).

Clipper Around the World

Andy Levy, a member of ABYC, is on board Clipper Telemed racing from China to Seattle.  The race started March 21 with boats expected to start arriving in Seattle April 20.  I am sure that, once Andy has returned, he will have stories to tell.
